Shovel Knight Dig is more of the classic platforming you’d expect from Yacht Club’s output. However, they’ve teamed with prolific UK-based indie dev team Nitrome, of Bomb Chicken renown, for it. Dig is a roguelike, with Shovel Knight and Shield Knight having to tunnel their way down through an “ever-changing chasm of mystery”. The game’s been in development for four years, so it’s had plenty of time in the oven....

Parts of the project have been around since 2017, and an update hit earlier this week with more nice newness: PC ports of console games are now often the best versions, with better performance and fancy new features, but for long years we received bad ports. Such was the case with Silent Hill 2, released on PlayStation 2 in 2001 then PC in 2002. You’re on a salvage mission into a creaking derelict. But unlike most video games inspired by Aliens, you’re just as squishy as those movie marines. If even one alien reaches you, you’re likely dead. So like the movie, it’s about careful movement, considering your route to escape at the end of a level, closing doors to reduce vulnerability, and, when appropriate, holding down fire and internally shouting RAAAH as you spray bullets down a corridor and aliens pour out of hives and start battering down doors and the sentry gun you were counting on is running out of ammo....

It puts you in the shoes of New Yorker Frey Holland, who suddenly finds herself alone and under attack from several fierce-looking dragons in the fantastical world of Athia one day....

Made by Dutch indie collective Sokpop, Stacklands is a bit Cultist Simulator and a bit Banished—but cheery. You’re building a village in familiar real-time strat-o-management ways, starting from humble beginnings with a single person foraging berries and punching trees, then eventually building, crafting, growing, and breeding to create a thriving little settlement, trying to keep ahead of starvation and deadly fauna. And everything is cards. Drag your villager onto a berry bush and they’ll slowly harvest berries until the bush is exhausted and vanishes....

As outlined in developer ConcernedApe’s announcement post, the new beach farm is just one of the changes coming when you start a new game of Stardew Valley. As we learned earlier today, the Advanced Game Options will let you shuffle up the bundles of items that you’re required to collect for the Community Center upgrades. For those that have unlocking the greenhouse and other upgrades down to a science I’m sure this will be a nice little shakeup....

You can switch it from being ordered by “recently played first” or “most played first”. Things I learned: I have no interest in any DLC for any game, no matter how much I love that game....

The change isn’t retroactive, but Valve have made it easy for devs to convert previous DLCs into soundtracks you can just straight up buy. New games can still sell their soundtracks as DLC if they’re feeling mean. The new system also supports higher quality file types than MP3s, which will be larger and optional. Valve are introducing a new interface for playing soundtracks through the Steam Library too, and anything would be an improvement over Steam’s current terrible built-in music player....

That new work begins to release this Monday with a free Tourism update and In-Dome Buildings DLC. The tourism update is free and allows visitors to your colony to give their stay a Holiday Experience Rating, which players can improve by building new hotels, zero-G amusement parks, and constructing a safari route for Rovers to drive around. The In-Dome Buildings pack meanwhile will cost £4. It was created in partnership with community modder Silva, and adds 8 new buildings to construct....
