This takes some doing, but luckily Aegis is a very advanced robot, the bestest of all the robots. Steelrising has eight levels, comprising different areas in and around Paris. It’s not an intricate and fully connected world like in a Souls game proper, but the levels themselves are quite large, and have a few doors you can only open from the other side to create shortcuts, that kind of thing....

Moonbreaker is quite a departure for Unknown Worlds, known for the Subnautica series. The game’s story has been dreamt up by author Brandon Sanderson. It puts you in the spaceboots of a team of interplanetary pirates, represented by a digital team of tabletop miniatures made up of six characters led by a captain. You’ll be able to paint these yourself using some snazzy tools, in true Warhammer 40K hobbyist fashion, before pitting your team against AI, other players, and a roguelike single-player mode....

I don’t care at all that climbing and gliding are becoming increasingly widespread in action-adventure games. I will never tire of climbing up high things and leaping off the top. Sailing on pretty blue water just makes it better. Tchia seems to be aiming for a similarly BotW-ish spirit of invention in combat, but here it’s driven by your ability to zoom inside animals and inanimate objects. Eurogamer report that several users on The Ascent’s Reddit are complaining of stuttering and lost cyberdeck functions in the Game Pass version of the game after the patch. Another Reddit user has a suggested workaround. It looks as if The Ascent is defaulting to enabling ray tracing features, even in cases where the player has a graphics card that can’t use them. If the player is running the game with DirectX 11, the ray tracing options are then disabled in the menu, so they can’t be turned off....

I can’t keep up, readers. A constant hoseworth of new games is one thing, but between mega bundles and a dozen streaming events, this month has become an avalanche of games. The Steam Game Festival has flung heaps of promising games in our direction. Frankly, far too many of them look good. My brain cannot parse this kind of volume. So. Let’s stick with the action games, yeah? Yes, it’s a nebulous category....
