Northgard’s greatest strength is the limitations it imposes upon the player, preventing you from ever reaching that point where you feel you have nothing left to accomplish because not a solitary tile on the map is left untouched. Each map is divided into different territories, and each territory can only hold a small number of buildings, forcing you to make regular choices between food production, defensive infrastructure, happiness, housing, and more....

Mercenaries reminds me a little of how you play Darkest Dungeon. There’s no deckbuilding, instead you gather a party of mercenaries in a town (that acts as your hub), and from there have options to send them on missions, collect rewards, manage your party, shop and more. Then, like Slay The Spire, when you send your party off on bounties they’ll travel up a map with a number of procedurally-generated encounters, ending in a boss battle....

We Are Football is another strat-o-sim about managing a team through the highs and lows. Train, trade, look at graphs, all that. It’s got women’s football too, which is nice. While it doesn’t have official licenses, it does have an editor so I imagine players will soon create the real stuff. In the meantime, I am delighted to see the team emblems in marketing screenshots. Yeah, I think Newcastle actually should replace the sea-horses in their crest with a helicopter....
