You’re a Borrowers-sized lad exploring a spooky forest, but there are even smaller, seemingly friendly gnome creatures who can climb upon you, as well as all the (giant to you) human-sized boss monsters you’ll need to overcome. The trailer focuses on one particular boss, the aforementioned fan of drowning....

Bramble: The Mountain King follows a boy called Olle on his journey to save his sister from the ominous, titular Bramble, and the new trailer teases some of the horrors we can expect in April. We see glimpses of colossal boss fights with a blood-soaked pigman, and a big-nosed goblin who really wants to eat you. Our young Olle has access to some supernatural powers and that manifests into a shiny sword at the end of the trailer....

Among other games, Severed Steel is inspired by other first-person ’em ups such as Mirror’s Edge and F.E.A.R. The singleplayer adventure has destructible environments and lots of bullet time tricks for you to play about running circles around the baddies with. Oh, you can’t reload though. Okay, so they’re less “authentic 80s looks” than what’s we’ve culturally all agreed the decade should’ve looked like, but still. They’re a neat, strange twist on Call Of Duty’s usual Michael Bay aesthetic....

Set across multiple regions in the Ural Mountains, Cold War’s Outbreak zombies mode sees you cut through swathes of the undead, but on a much bigger scale than its usual one-map affairs. You’ll have objectives to complete, crates to loot, and vehicles to plough into zombies with. In the trailer below, there’s a lovely looking forest area, but it’s the ski-slopes which really get me going. Hoofing it down a frosty mountain on a snowmobile while spraying bullets really appeals to me....

As spotted by PC Gamer, Blops Coalwar’s campaign is littered with arcade cabinets sporting a range of Activision’s dustiest games. More than just cute little easter eggs, each of these games is fully playable - no matter how busy you are pulling war crimes for Ronald Reagan, there’s always time to stop and pop a few quarters into a Pitfall cabinet. The bulk of these cabinets are found in a Russian level featuring a simulated American city with a cinema, diner and, yes, arcade - though there are plenty others hidden in backrooms and garages across the game’s story....

Activision are giving cryptic updates in the form of mission reports over on their website. “We know you are outnumbered, out-armed, and out of options against this contamination, as resources are expected to be scarce within Verdansk,” their instructions said at the event kickoff. “Survive at all costs against the threats that remain, no matter the odds. We are counting on you to execute the mission.” From the looks of it, the first phase of the event turns dead players into zombies, who then go on to keep hunting other players....

CDPR have set a July 9 date for their online WitcherCon event. They say it’ll have panels with people who make the games and show, probe the stories of the Witcher world, give behind-the-scenes peeks, and such. One thing it definitely will not have is an announcement for some big, new Witcher game. “In the name of setting appropriate expectations CD Projekt Red has informed that no new Witcher game will be announced at WitcherCon,” they say....

The thing I’m more concerned about is the fact it looks like a Portal turret in disguise. This is one monitor I do not want to be left alone in a room with. I mean, look at that thing. It has a laser turret sticking out one side, and an all-seeing camera poking out the top. As the owner and sole barista of this hidden away establishment, you’ll be fixing them drinks while lending a kind ear to their daily frustrations and problems....

After starting testing Trusted mode in beta in June, Valve officially added it to CS in last night’s patch. You can use a command line option to launch the game in untrusted mode, but you won’t be able to play on VAC-secured servers and Valve note this will negatively affect your trust score. That’s the complex metric they use to judge how legit a player is, and folks with lower trust scores can get placed into matchmaking queues with other less-trusted people - who are more likely to be cheats or wrong’uns....

Chief among the additions in Fates Of Iberia is the new Struggles system, which is moddable and customisable. Paradox haven’t said much about what this entails, but from the screenshots they’ve shared on Steam it looks like Struggles will affect particular regions. Struggles have distinct phases that your ruler will need to navigate with their decisions and actions, and each phase seems to have effects on war, culture and faith....

The corner of the map revamped by Northern Lords is, as the expansion’s name suggests, the bit inhabited by the Norse cultures - aka the Vikings, for people like me who take perverse pleasure in insisting that Frankenstein was the name of the monster. It has been released alongside the free 1.3 “Corvus” patch, which also bears a few new Norse-centric features, but also applies a broader coat of small spruce-ups across the game....

Without mods, CK3 does allow for same-sex relationships, just not concubinage or marriage. Players had been getting around the former with mods, but patch 1.3 managed to entirely disable the method modders were using to do so. As for same-sex marriages, fans haven’t been able to create mods for those at all (which they could do in CK2). Paradox told RPS last month that the breaking of the concubine mod was “in no way implemented in order to deliberately bar players from including same-sex relationships in the game”....

Cyberpunk 2077 is on Steam, GOG (be wary of key resellers!), and the Epic Games Store for £50/€60/$60. It’s also out on Google Stadia. The game hits Xbone and PS4 today too, but CDPR say it will launch region-by-region at midnight local time for consoles rather than simultaneously worldwide. Xbox Xeriex X/S and PlayStation 5 versions will follow in 2021. Steam and GOG got quite wobbly, quite quickly. Bit popular, this game....

In a new chat with Noclip, Bakaba talks about how drastically Deathloop’s close-quarters combat changed during development. Deathloop originally borrowed Dishonored’s melee system, including parrying and blocking with Colt’s machete. Things got hairy in multiplayer though, where latency between players made careful timing feel all wrong. That latency wasn’t so noticable with bullets, but frustrated playtesters attempting to parry, Bakaba says. He likens it to Dark Souls, which he feels players are more willing to accept, but just didn’t work in Deathloop....
