An attempt to translate Dota 2 into a collectable card game, Artifact was put on indefinite hold this time last year after player numbers took a near-immediate nosedive. Besides that one time folks used Artifact’s Twitch category to stream porn, pirated movies and actual real-life murders, there’s been nary a peep from the three-lane card battler. Like everyone else, I’d sort of imagined Valve had quietly swept their failed card game under the carpet....

During Xbox’s Gamescom stream, a developer explains that the DLC is set in Cheyenne Mountain, a military complex hidden in the mountains. When you reach level 16, you’ll get to visit this base to secure it, except when you arrive, two cults are at war there. 2016’s Watch Dogs 2 is very much a typical Ubisoft open-world game of its time, but recently I had a hankering for that. The 1440p 144Hz combination is a strong one in 2023, as it offers a good mixture of detail and responsiveness without stretching your GPU or your wallet beyond breaking point. For example, I’m pretty sure my gunslinger character works at a steampunk cowboy themed erotique parlour. I actually quite enjoy her attack style, a sort of hyper-aggressive DPS that allows her to switch between three different gun stances (pistols, shotgun and rifle). The dual pistols in particular come with a load of crowd-control AOE attacks like explosions and spinning bullets firing smaller bullets, or something. And while there is some kind of story involving demons and a war and bits of stone (something something destiny), my gunslinger’s quest is, currently, the single-minded pursuit of a pair of trousers....

Windbound wasn’t beloved when it released last year, owing mostly to a rough combat system. It remains an aesthetically gorgeous game, and a compelling mix of Wind Waker’s sailing and Breath Of The Wild’s scavenging, cooking and paragliding. As you explore its islands, you’re able to gather materials to upgrade your boat and sail through more difficult seas to yet more islands. It’s worth a shot at the price. Grab it from Epic any time before February 17th at 4pm and it’s yours to keep forever....

It turns out I’m not alone. App developer Steven Cravotta explained on Twitter that a completely unrelated game he released five years ago, also called Wordle, has had a major increase in downloads over the past few weeks.
