The first of Techland’s “Dying To Know” livestreams didn’t really tell us all that much we were dying to know outside the release date. It was mostly just a recap of things we’d learned about DL2 over the years since it had first been announced. The trailer down here goes over most of the big points: factions, combat, and the shambling hordes of baddies that aren’t technically zombies. Techland did properly show off some nighttime gameplay, the time of day when the hordes are properly out and dangerous, which we had yet to see much of from the sequel....

I was talking to Graham (RPS in peace) about this and he said: “Eventually one of these RPG sci-fi fantasy things will get close enough to being a BioWare game that it makes loads of money.” This being the games equivalent of monkeys and typewriters. But although I agreed with Graham at the time, I think comparing it to BioWare might be mistaking the particular appeal of Elex II. It would be too simple to say that I “enjoyed” the hours I have spent with it so far....

Odyssey is the expansion which added first-person exploration and violence on foot. Since it launched, many players have complained about bugs, performance problems, boring grind, and other issues. Our own review wasn’t impressed either. “Hopefully in the future Frontier will finish working on Odyssey’s borked features,” spaceboy Brendy said in the Elite Dangerous: Odyssey review at launch in May 2021. “When that happens, I’m sure this will be the place to jump in for new players....

But in fairness to Bethesda, they immediately began steering Fallout 76 back towards warmer, more populated waters. Now, after a year and a half of work, the proof-filled pudding is served. And since it’s landed on steam too, widening its reach considerably, Bethesda are no doubt hoping a proverbial drove of players who gave it a miss 17 months ago will be coming back for a taste. But will it be to their liking?...

It’s a clever little detective game by Tim Sheinman (Owl_Skip on Itch), where your job is to uncover the names of 30 musicians from a specific, but entirely fake, 80s London music scene. You use snippets of clues, recordings of songs, and your own big sexy brain to work it out. It’s a lovely little gem to spend an afternoon with. Having not actually been part of a London music scene, or the 80s, I can’t attest to how accurately Family represents those things specifically....

That last game may be less familiar. Farlanders is a turn-based strategy game about terraforming Mars via building placement and adjacency bonuses, and it’s due for release next month. Here’s the new release date trailer: In Farlanders, you’re aiming to do what you do in any citybuilder: keep your citizens happy. This is made harder than normal by the unforgiving Mars terrain, which you slowly colonise and terraform by building structures....

I don’t play FFXIV - or Final Fantasy games generally - but there’s some pleasingly daft stuff in the trailer. Chief among it is the new Nier: Automata crossover raid, YoRHa:Dark Apocalypse, designed by Yosuke Saito and Yoko Taro. Those are the bits above where the players are tiny (or rather, far away) and fighting a giant woman in a greyscale cuboid world of stairs, for some reason. Patch 5....

The tidings I bring today are mixed, though, because Foundation recently had another huge update to its early access build. V1.6 has made many small but significant changes (including large piles of rocks), and Aliceburg has become a bit borked as a result, especially now that Foundation has some tutorialising and quests to teach you how to build a city properly. Last time, I spoke of one day abandoning Aliceburg as if it were a long way off, but I am afraid that the day is now....

The rules are simple, and familiar to anyone who has played any of the recent wave of similar games. You’ve got a limited number of guesses with which to name the film; each incorrect guess reveals a new still and another chance to guess; win or lose, you get some coloured squares to easily share your result; and there is just one film to identify per day. Thankfully, today’s movie wasn’t from the past 22 years and I got it in three guesses....

It’s a Soulslike that plonks you into an alternate Victorian London where people got real good at inventing creepy automata. You play as the big P himself, Pinocchio. We’ve seen clips of P’s combat before, but I much prefer getting to watch fights play out rather than being discombobulated by quick jumps between lots of different ones, like in the Gamescom trailer from last August. This gives a much better idea of the pacing, with standard enemies that shamble around while you pirouette between them doing fancy sword slashes....

Arithmetic Amphibian-liker Natalie Clayton gave the cap a try back in August, saying “Lo and behold, put on the hat, and Frog Fractions: GOTD spirals off into entirely new numerals. […] Things are awfully familiar to begin with, but quickly spiral according to the demands of high fashion.” Well the spiral’s not quite done yet. Slap that cap back on, frog folks. “I’ve just patched 100+ new secrets, big and small, into the Hop’s Iconic Cap add-on to Frog Fractions: Game of the Decade Edition,” say Twinbeard’s patch notes....

“Dave Batista is a huge Gears of War and Marcus Fenix fan, so we jumped at the chance to get him in the game,” the devs explained yesterday. “We worked with him re-recorded all of Marcus’ lines while the art team meticulously recreated his likeness. The end result is Dave Batista is present throughout the campaign in both gameplay and cinematic moments.” He’s arriving as part of “a major campaign update” due on November 10th (alongside the new Xbox)....

Players will tear through foes as they climb through some of the elemental realms and challenge the mad-god Macros who awaits you at the top.” Looks like we’re in for a good old hack n’ slash here....

Visit Humble’s Big in Japan sale I’m not a Japanese games expert - Katharine or Ed are probably much better bets! - but based on my regular consumption of RPS articles, I feel somewhat qualified to pick out a few highlights for you. Charming multi-threaded JRPG Octopath Traveler is half-off, so I’d probably start there, but I’ve also heard good things about the lovable cast of Persona 5 Strikers (33% off) and the Souls-like combat of Code Vein (67% off)....

Multiple users of the Steam Deck subreddit are also reporting these black screens, which effectively render Ghostwire unplayable on Valve’s handheld if you can’t get past them. One solution might be to install the latest version of Proton GE (Glorious Eggroll), a custom version of the Deck’s Linux compatibility layer – this has at least worked for the folks at Italian site PC-Gaming.it, who’ve posted footage of Ghostwire running decently with Low settings and FSR upscaling....
