Beyond A Steel Sky is set in a sort of Mad-Max-meets-cyberpunk dystopian mash-up from Charles “Broken Sword” Cecil, and famous comics artist Dave “Watchmen” Gibbons. The game’s traditionally rubbish, genre staple name is actually a hangover from the game to which this is a sequel, Beneath A Steel Sky, where gruff everyman Robert Foster and his AI robot pal Joey freed a city-state from the clutches of its evil AI overlord....
New operator Thunderbird is bringing some additional healing support to the defender side. Her gadget is the Kona Station, which spits out a bit of health to the first operator who enters its radius. You know, like those cute little auto feeders for pets. You never be afraid to leave your teammates home alone again. Even a downed defender can manually trigger the Kona Station to revive themselves prior to death....

Now it’s here, Shadow Legacy lets us get back in the impractical goggles of Sam Fisher (sorry, “Zero”), in lieu of his series being on seemingly-indefinite hiatus. As usual, ol’ Fisher comes with a new stash of gadgets to play around with, chief among these being tiny spy cameras that can zap opponents with an irritating laser....
As per usual, we’re going by the year of a game’s PC release here, not when it came out on consoles, and it’s this particular version of the game we’re preserving, too. That’s why some games might be absent from their original release year, as they may have received a shiny HD remake or remaster in subsequent years we’d want to save instead (needless to say, our Time Capsule is not bound by what is and isn’t available to physically buy in this day and age - it’s the sentiment that counts)....

GSC Game World tweeted a video dev diary showing footage from the destructive Russian strikes on Kyiv, some of which reached within a mile of the company’s offices. The video highlights the daily struggles of the developers, whether they were able to evacuate from Kyiv or were trapped in their homes. Some appear to have been working on the game under very compromised and dangerous circumstances. Other staff have joined the Ukrainian armed forces or volunteered in other ways....

The story behind Stripes the cat coming to Morrowind is lovely but that story is more interesting than the actual mod, and it’s all contained the mod’s readme file. Great for me as an avid readme reader, less exciting for website readers. And the mod’s download page has only a single muddy screenshot to show. So off I go to play the mod for myself, and take a screenshot and video to give you a better look at Stripes....

It’s a quick reel mostly of the mechanical baddies you’ll find out in the wild. Huge drillsnakes rotate overhead. The large frog thing with a buzzsaw on its face takes a leap at the player for a nice, weighty-looking attack. Some other giant, spherical creature vaults around a lab indoors. I’ve run out of synonyms for “big.” They’re all healthy-sized horrors, alright? Then there’s those bee drones we heard about yesterday as well....
A quick recap: in Salt And Sacrifice you’re a Marked Inquisitor hunting down mages. They summon all the bad guys that pollute the levels. You’re there to cut everything into little chunks until you make it to the boss. One of definitions of a soulslike is that the player works things out as they go, and so this footage doesn’t make it easy for the watcher to follow along. It’s a collection of moments as far as I can tell, but it’s probably a decent representation of the fraught nature of exploring....
Shenmue 3 originally came out on this very day last year, four years after a fruitful Kickstarter campaign that saw developers Ys Net raise $6 million. It follows on from the story of Shenmue 2 (which came out a whole 19 years ago), with Ryu hanging out in rural China looking for the baddies who murdered his dad - and playing load of odd minigames on the way. In his Shenmue 3 review, Matthew says the game can be a bit boring, but somehow that only manages to add to its charm: “The mad thing is, for all its creaky ideas and garlic guzzling, I was enraptured for chunks of Shenmue 3....
That modder is “extrwi”, who works on the Skryim Script Extender (SKSE). This tool doesn’t do anything fancy in itself but does let other people make mods which change more of the game than the official tools allow. Many mods require SKSE, including near-mandatory ones like SkyUI. Thankfully, extrwi has already managed to release a preliminary build with support for the Anniversary Edition update. “In an attempt to avert the part of the modpocalpyse that I can control, I’ve been spending all of my free time for the last week and a half or so getting this ready, and just made it about an hour before the update was pushed,” they said on Reddit in the wee hours....
The new statement is tucked away in Sony’s 2020 Corporate Report where they use some of my favorite corpo words like “IP” and “synergy” to explain their plans for the future of game series and game studios they own. Sony first say that they’re angling for more active users on PlayStation, but also concede there’s growth to be had off the platform. “We will explore expanding our first party titles to the PC platform, in order to promote further growth in our profitability,” they say....
