As reported by Bloomberg (mind the paywall), Ubisoft are suing both mobile storefronts in an attempt to get the “near carbon copy” of Rainbow Six Siege delisted. By their reckoning, Ubisoft claim the aggressive similarities between their shooter and mobile FPS Area F2 cannot “seriously be disputed." It’s not that you can’t make a game similar to Rainbow Six for mobile. Ubisoft doesn’t own the market on high-lethality, precision team shooters (hello, Counter-Strike and Valorant)....

Goose Game’s soundtrack, made by Dan Golding based on Claude Debussy’s Préludes, is dynamic in the game. It reacts to the goose’s japes, going fast and quiet and slow and jaunty when appropriate. The pressed soundtrack can’t exactly capture that, but a record with two grooves can capture some of the surprise. It puts two different sound waves into two grooves coiling alongside each other, playing a different track depending on where the needle first hits the vinyl....

Those changes in brief? Most players should have lower latency now when playing on dedicated servers. Less brief: this is because the game now uses direct connections instead of Steam Datagram Relay (SDR). SDR is billed as a way to carry game traffic through Valve’s network, making it faster and more secure, though it seems that hasn’t been the case for Valheim players. The game’s patch notes do note there’s a Steam client beta already available that may fix some of the problems with SDR....

Valkyrie has some excellent abilities. First up, she has a jetpack. I don’t need to say more really, that’s the coolest thing, and also the thing currently causing havoc. Her ultimate ability lets her use this jetpack to zoom way up into the sky to get out of sticky situations, and once she hits the apex of that zoom, she falls into a skydive (like you would when first dropping into the Apex arena)....

Queen Sigma is the new character introduced with this patch, and she can turn into a swirling vortex that looks like a psychedelic spiral galaxy. That’s really handy for ending enemies. Devs poncle say this patch is the last major update before Vampire Survivors hits the big 1.0 at launch, but promise that there’ll be “surprises” between now and whenever that turns out to be. Along with Sigma come two new weapons: the Victory Sword and Sole Solution....

But while Crusader, Europa and Hearts have all had new versions in the last few years, their poor idustrial age cousin has been languishing since the release of Victoria 2 in 2010, without even any DLC since 2013. And needless to say, fans of the series don’t like to let Paradox forget this. Hence the shouts of “Vicky 3!”, which have gotten more and more memeified as the odds of Victoria 3 actually getting made have dwindled....

But if developers want to make games about real history, especially stuff which has happened within a generation or two of living memory, things become a lot more stark. Victoria 3, the next grand strategy project from Paradox, will see players take the reins of nations on the global stage of the 19th century. That means industrialisation, massive social upheaval, and a thousand other fascinations. But it also means rapacious national expansion, colonialism, and slavery - issues on which the public conversation has advanced a lot since Victoria 2 came out in 2010....

As with the original, Poly Bridge 2’s main goal is to get cars, trucks, and other vehicles safely across a body of water using a given budget for building materials. If you don’t properly support your structures, they’re liable to fall apart and dunk yer little toy trucks in the drink. Oh and mind all the ridiculous obstacles like giant rocks and pirate ships, aye? There are a lot of tweaks and fixes and improvements that developers at Dry Cactus say Poly Bridge 2 has over the original....

Ubisoft have got ever base well and truly covered with their Watch Dogs Legion PC requirements, covering a broad range of resolutions and quality settings. They don’t specify exactly what frame rate each spec is targeting, all told, but I’d imagine that the minimum requirements will hit at least 30fps on its designated 1080p, Low settings. As you can see below, this should be pretty manageable for anyone who’s built a PC within the last five years or so, and most people should be able to handle the game at 1080p on High, too, given you only need a 6GB GTX 1060 or RX 480 in order to run it....

We plan to tackle games in their entirety over a number of weeks, starting with the moral murk of 2019’s The Outer Worlds. It’s short and has great potential for evil (like some RPS staffers I know) and should be a good time for all involved. Well, all those watching. Ubisoft announced the stream yesterday, saying “things are going to get wild”. Is this a teaser in itself? Is it something to do with Ghost Recon Wildlands? I sure hope not. Tom Clancy has a great big universe now, with all his Rainbow Sixes, Ghost Recons, Splinter Cells and Divisions. It seems the new game might actually be involved with that last one in some way, as early gameplay posted by IGN shows some shooting on a map based in what appears to be New York in The Division....

I posed this question to veteran developer Brian Mitsoda, who has a long history of working on unique RPGs like Alpha Protocol, having most recently been the narrative designer for the seemingly ill-fated Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2. Invert mouse I don’t get it. I know it’s important but god help me, I really don’t get it. I know its absence will be loudly decried by invertors but I don’t understand why they are this way. Someone once described their use of invert mouse to me as “Like you’re pulling down on the back of your character’s head to make them look up”. Alarming.
