Possibly because I’ve spent most of my life with PCs some way behind the curve in terms of hardware, I’ve never been that bothered about how games look. But Horizon Zero Dawn is an exception. It looked a couple of years ahead of its time even in 2017 on PS4, and if Katharine’s experimentation with Death Stranding (which uses the same engine) are anything to go by, HZD’s PC port is going to absolutely batter us aesthetically....

As spotted by VGC, CKY drummer Jess Margera appeared on The Behind Closed Doors Podcast last month. They got into a bit of chat about music licensing for video games as one possible revenue opportunity for bands, which is when the Tony Hawk games come up. “I’m assuming you guys were on at least one of the Tony Hawk games, weren’t you?” The host asks. “Yeah, and I believe we’re doing the new one coming out too,” Margera answers....

Essentially, shareholders are claiming they’ve suffered losses as a result of Activision Blizzard’s share prices dropping after the DFEH’s lawsuit was made public. The filing also alleges that the company made “false and/or misleading statements and/or failed to disclose” a variety of things involved in the DFEH case. For example, the new lawsuit claims Activision Blizzard didn’t tell investors they had allegedly “discriminated against women and minority employees” or “fostered a pervasive ‘frat boy’ workplace culture that continues to thrive”....
The conflict of interest came to light after the DFEH objected to the EEOC’s proposed settlement with Activision Blizzard, which would see them create an $18 million claims fund for employees who experienced harm from “sexual harassment, pregnancy discrimination and/or related retaliation”. The EEOC objected to that objection, saying that two of the leading lawyers on the DFEH case previously worked for the EEOC, and were involved in the investigation that led to the settlement they’re trying to stop....

According to AMD’s GPUOpen site, FSR 2.1 mainly focuses on reducing the ghosting effect that FSR 2.0 (and, let’s be honest, the original FSR 1.0) can sometimes add when it’s enabled. The latest version also supposedly improves upscaling and “temporal stability” in certain cases, so when it pieces together a higher-resolution frame from the initial, lower-res render, it should result in a sharper picture that more accurately matches the ‘true’ image....

The devs announced in a Tweet that the nighttime mode is right out, and the normal Kings Canyon mode will be available less so players can spend more time in World’s Edge. Arc Raiders is the first game from developers Embark Studios, which was set up by former EA executive Patrick Söderlund (notably, he was CEO of Dice, who make Battlefield). In it, you’ll join a group of Raiders and battle Arc, nasty bots from space. From the looks of the trailer, we’ll be scavenging and shooting our way through lotsa drones in vast alien landscapes. I’m seeing a lot of concrete, and a lot of desert, which is a little boring for new sci-fi....
So it’s got me thinking. Is there anything to be excited about in VR gaming in 2021? That looks pretty good, doesn’t it? That it also adds VR support for Hitman 1 and 2 as well is just marvellous. Please bring it to PC. Anyway: this isn’t a skeptic asking the question about 2021. These sorts of rock piles usually smash when you hit them, dropping iron ore. The weird thing about this one though, is that it doesn’t break.
