4A Games explain that the PC enhanced edition will require a GPU with ray tracing capability as the minimum system specs. The enhanced edition is such an overhaul, they explain, that it will be released as its own product instead of a patch for Exodus. This is your warning.] I didn’t play Drakengard, or the original release of Replicant - to me they’re legends of the time before Nier: Automata, which I loved....

I’m into Nightmare Reaper because it’s repetitive… but not. It’s a roguelike DOOM-inspired shooter where you blast through procedurally-generated levels and their demonic denizens, earn cash, put points into a skill-tree, and get as far as you can. The quest for loot has elevated this from a potential “Meh” to a solid, “Oh yeah”.

But welded onto it is a game about hopping from planet to planet whilst pursued by space gits, facing increasingly stern challenges to your engineering skill, and I’m not altogether certain what to make of it. On the one hand, it’s brutally difficult, and often in the most frustrating ways. But on the other hand, it’s an elegant piece of game design that manages to add impetus, strategy and tension to an otherwise aimless physics sandbox....
