Regular RPS readers may already be aware that (a) I’m a huge horror nerd, and (b) I think the games published under the DreadXP banner are something pretty special. I was equal parts grossed out and charmed by the Lovecraftian dating sim Sucker For Love: First Date when I reviewed it back in January, and was pleasantly surprised by my time with the My Friendly Neighborhood demo at the recent Steam Next Fest....

Besides, if you really wanted to burn off the starting line first, you probably would’ve spent a bit more for the Schumacher Editon wot came out on Wednesday. Okay, so it looks like the version that released today is technically the Seventy Edition, a pre-release version that comes with special car, driver and emblem customisation options. Presumably, tomorrow will see those emblems relegated to DLC as the game drops the “Seventy” moniker....

“The Facebook Gaming app is a focused, gaming-only experience where you can watch your favorite streamers, play instant games, and take part in gaming groups,” Facebook say in an announcement today. They’d planned to roll out a mobile app for the service this summer but accelerated plans in order to sweep up everyone stuck at home during the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. “Investing in gaming in general has become a priority for us because we see gaming as a form of entertainment that really connects people,” head of the Facebook app Fidji Simo told the New York Times....

The Steam announcement says plain and simple that Fallout 3 GotY “no longer requires Games for Windows Live” and “no longer installs Games for Windows Live dependencies”. Yup, it seems they’ve stripped GFWL from the regular edition too, obvs. Bethesda started selling Fallout 3 without GFWL on GOG last year, so it’s good to see Steam catch up. GFWL has been dead for a while but the game still required it and would take a while trying to log in on startup....

Necrosmith is a 2D necromance ’em up that is also sort of a tower defence game. In the middle of the map is your evil lair, the Hall Of Bones, a sort of legally distinct Sauron’s tower that gets more flying buttresses the more you upgrade it. If enemies (which can be packs of wolves or flying bugs or all manner of things) do enough damage to destroy it, you lose - so that’s your defense bit....

The top inclusion in this tuning patch is the alteration to penalties. EA have reduced the accuracy of penalty kicks taken when the composure ring is yellow or red. This should have the effect of making penalties harder, following community criticism of their difficulty level since the game’s launch last week. I could watch an entire match of just penalties, so that suits me. EA also mucked about with the speed of players whose dribbling-related attributes are below 90 with this patch, increasing the quickness of their technical dribbling animation....

The Data Hub is is where managers can get in-depth analytics about their team’s performance....

Sega and devs Sports Interactive have managed to score some new licences for Football Manager 2023. They’d be the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League. That’s a lot of UEFAs. Reveals of more new features are being promised in the run up to the game’s launch in November, which you’ll be able to scout out on the Football Manager social media and site. The standout change for this year is that anyone grabbing themselves a physical PC copy will find that there’s a flappy piece of paper inside instead of a disc....

I think I speak for the entirety of the RPS Scottish contingent when I ask: who needs London, anyway? On The Edge assumes your base game city survived, and can now send out scouts to establish new settlements, albeit one still under the firm grip of New London. They, not you, have control over the book of laws. As such, other communities become more of a focus - your town needs friends to survive, and through friendship or fear, you’ll come to build up an alliance of towns that can one day, hopefully, confront the bastards in Westminster....

Although GDC is an industry event, the professional presentations about the design and development of games both big and small are always a welcome learning experience for those of us who can watch and read about the talks each year. “GDC Summer will be a unique Game Developers Conference experience but will retain the same high level of expert-led talks as the traditional GDC, along with a freestyle two-day expo show floor August 5th and 6th,” GDC say about the new format....

The game came out in May 2016, and received its final update just over a year later. It wasn’t particularly badly received, though was criticised for being just a bit too much of a mishmash of genres - from MOBA, to hero shooter, with co-op story bits thrown in for good measure - and not really mastering any of them.
