Riot flaunted Runterra’s release with (what else) an intensely dramatic, stylish little animated short. Calm down lads, it’s only cards. On release, Runeterra’s collective deck will be buffed out with a new set of over 120 cards, bringing the total collection up to 400. This includes a new, seventh region - one that Riot are remaining frustratingly tight-lipped on until release. That silence doesn’t apply to all new additions, mind, and deets on some of these new cards will begin drip-feeding out of Riot’s feeds over the coming weeks....
The game involves plucking and placing the remarkably detailed and clicky blocks around small dioramas. You could be completing a broken building, or gently encouraging a minifig to cross over a raging torrent of blocks. There’s nothing that I’ve encountered that makes me think I’ll need to look up a guide, but I did appreciate the relaxing atmosphere that they’ve crafted block-by-block. With every setting maxed out, the bricks here look better than in the real-world....

Innistrad is one of my favourite planes from Magic, so I’m quite pleased to hear Shadows Over Innistrad is being remastered for Arena. The original launched in paper Magic back in April 2016 as part of a two-set block, joined by Eldritch Moon a few months later. Those sets dealt with the warping of the protector of Innistrad, the archangel Avacyn, and touched on cosmic horror thanks to the arrival of the monstrous Eldrazi titan Emrakul from the plane of Zendikar....

More importantly, early-game Monsters felt a little more forgiving. The consequences for biffing a dodge or pulling off a poorly timed combo were minimal, and creatures would perish quickly even when playing solo. Things absolutely got harder towards the end of the game’s hub quests (and the less said about its wretched late-game rampage missions the better) but on the whole, you could see the majority of what Rise had to offer without breaking too much of a sweat....

Mortal Shell is an unashamed attempt to mimic the Dark Souls formula, albeit on a slightly more condensed scale owing to its 15 person design team. On the surface it’s another jaunt through a bleak fantasy world, fighting against hard-hitting monsters with attack animations that take several years to wind up. Its secret sauce are the titular shells: the bodies of fallen warriors that you possess, to protect your far more fragile skeleton from harm....
