Liam may already be a familiar face to some of you out there. He was previously a video producer over at our PlayStation sister site Push Square, where he talked about the CHAOS of Stranger Of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origins, commented on the fallout of Sony press conferences, and rounded up his favourite racing games among many, many other fun and insightful videos. He’s also run his own indie-focused YouTube channel Seven Out Of Ten since 2011, focusing on those interesting oddities in games that reach for the stars and end up falling just a little bit short (although I do take exception to calling Dorfromantik a 7/10, I mean that’s clearly outrageous)....

He has a “Melancholic” health trait, and there’s no guarantee that he’ll be able to fill the role he’s being prepared for....

In Curse Of The Dead Gods, you play as a guy who’s exploring a horrifying and deadly temple for exactly the reasons you’d expect - money, power and eternal life. Like a lot of roguelikes, you’ll collect relics and weapons to help you beast through hordes of enemies, and ultimately kill some gods. All in a day’s work. One of the main gimmicks in the game (which is very similar to Darkest Dungeon) is that you’ll have a much nicer time fighting monsters while you’re in the light....

At character creation, you’ll choose to start V’s story as a Street Kid, Nomad, or Corpo, each with their own relationships to Night City. The livestream shows off a sort of trailer for each origin story to give you the vibe of each. The Street Kid is familiar with Night City’s underworld and seems to have plenty of connections to call up. The Corpo is well-connected too, but in the higher-up world of corporate espionage....

When Cyberpunk 2077 launched, I saw plenty of clips of Night City police appearing magically behind players immediately after commiting a crime. I know it’s the future and all, but that did seem a bit comically efficient. CDPR show off how the police response times will feel after the patch in this short clip. You can spot that recon drone at work in the clip as well. You’ll also run into fewer vehicle mishaps after the update....

This lawsuit started as four separate actions brought by various investors and shareholders, which merged into one in May 2021. The lawyers behind the initial suit claimed CDP “made false and/or misleading statements and/or failed to disclose” its state. They said the game was “virtually unplayable” on Xbone and PS4, a condition which also caused Sony to remove the game from the PlayStation Store for six months, and harmed CDP’s reputations and finances....

Tuque Games wheeled out a new combat overview trailer today, which is for some reason narrated by Flight of the Conchords man Jemaine Clement. If you can avoid being distracted by his catching enthusiasm, you can spot a mixture of regular attack chains and bigger skills from each of the four characters. There’s some pretty big bow AOE in play, lots of large hammer bashes, and some parrying as well....

Darwinia’s 10,000th anniversary edition launched this week, with a newly re-written graphics engine, support for surround sound, cloud saves, Steam Deck, and various bug fixes. Lovely stuff. You can find the full list of new additions in the Steam post. It includes support for anti-aliasing modes like MSAA and SSAA and anisotropic texture filtering, but the real wins are things like the in-game UI now scaling better for different monitor sizes....

“The new division will be tasked with working with creative and talented professionals in television, music and film, as well as the more familiar games industry,” said division head Riley Russell, according to GamesIndustry.biz. “The team has as its charter, the goal of expanding the reach and awareness of the properties now under development at Kojima Productions, and to make them even more a part of our popular culture.” Granted, given Hideo Kojima’s enthusiasm for merchandising and crossovers, this could mean the new division dream of making Chvrches music videos starring Sam Porter Bridges to promote Monster Energy-branded sunglasses....

Mods will fit into one of three categories: “Sandbox”, “Approved for Progression”, and “Fully Approved”, and will show up in the server browser to warn you about what sort of game you’re joining. The default mod category, “Sandbox”, will only work on modded saves of the game. “You cannot use your regular save with your main progression when playing with these mods,” Ghost Ship wrote on Steam. “Servers running these mods will be tagged in the server browser and only people using modded saves can join....

‘Beaver’ is the code for a type of disconnection error in Destiny, but since March some players have suffered so many more Beaver disconnections than seemed sensible. Evidently something wasn’t right. This problem started after Destiny on PC switched to using a new Steam peer-to-peer networking setup that was supposed to help players by hiding our IPs from cyberwrong’uns so they couldn’t bump us offline with DDoS attacks or hit us with Back Orifice or whatever it is they’re into these days....

The story feels like it’s going somewhere. As much as I like Destiny telling a squillion stories in the background at all times, something has to happen in the foreground. Season Of The Worthy in particular felt a waste of time, hiding important developments in the background while focusing on the Cabal - who we thoroughly smashed in the original campaign three years ago. Now Arrivals kicks off with a new story mission and hey, look, surprise, one of those naughty Pyramids has popped over for a chat, some folks are thinking we should attempt conversation, and the Hive are trying to interrupt our fledgling relationship....

It’s good news that Devolver are returning this E3, then. They’ll broadcast an event during Summer Game Fest on Saturday, June 12th at 1:30pm PT/4:30pm ET/21:30pm BST. The news was tweeted by the Summer Game Fest account: Summer Game Fest is the Geoff Keighley-hosted event which kicks off June 10th, and incorporates this Devolver stream but also Ubisoft Forward, Square Enix Presents, Steam Next Fest and more. Are those streams also E3 streams?...

Whoops! My finger slipped. Ok, so I accidentally grabbed it and, oh god is it gross. It’s at least confined to a decent depth, tucked between the Hiisi Base and Jungle biome like a tumour. As you enter it, you’re warned you’ve made it to the ‘Dog’s Bowels’. The creatures down here are ghastly blobs of raw meat. One looks a bit like a spider had an accident in a blender with some pink bubblegum....

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War does have crossplay. You can link up with friends regardless of console. You’ll need to find a way to add them to your friends list though, and this can be done using your Activision ID, an account that everyone has access to....

Plunder isn’t either, if I’m honest. It’s a monster-slaying action RPG with age of sail trappings, but it’s carried off with charm and such a clean design that even I can’t bring my usual grudge to bear on it. I’m having far too much fun.

Based on Stratton’s account, the situation around Doom Eternal’s soundtrack seems to have come about after multiple attempts to compromise on scheduling, which ultimately resulted in a compromise in quality instead. “Our challenges have never been a matter of creative differences,” Stratton says. “Mick has had near limitless creative autonomy over music composition and mixing in our recent DOOM games, and I think the results have been tremendous.” Stratton says Id announced during E3 2019 that they would release Eternal’s OST with the Collector’s Edition of the game....

In a hands-off presentation, developers Shiro Games showed us how the (sadly Chalamet-less) Atreides family will be going about their fight to control Arrakis’ most coveted substance - the all-important spice melange - although players will also be able to choose from the shady Harkonnen clan at launch, plus two more unannounced factions that will be revealed in the coming weeks. There’s a lot to take in, but if you’ve been waiting for a Dune game to succeed the 1992 RTS epic that was Dune II: Battle For Arrakis, well, you better pull your head out of the sand and strap on your hydro-cycling stillsuit....

Here’s the launch trailer: I’ve previously wondered aloud about what tactical consequences there are to being able to slide a platform about, and whether they’re interesting enough to sustain a full game. The trailer above suggests an answer: the tactical consequence is that you can be a total dick. It mostly seems useful for causing hordes of enemies to run this way then that as you slide away from them, untouchable....
