If you’re not in the know about Lord Of The Rings: Gollum, it’s an upcoming action-adventure game with some stealthy bits thrown in there, and it’s being made by the developers of the Deponia series and The Pillars Of The Earth. Jay had a chat with them last year back when the game was in pretty early development, and they mentioned they wanted to bring in some sort of feature that played on the character’s two personalities....

This is the base for the latest escalation mission. I can’t tell you what the score is, because it’s different every time. According to developers IO Interactive: “A client and accomplice are randomly assigned, meaning that the winner of the Garden Show (which is based just as much on who is alive to claim the prize, as it is based on the quality of the gardens) will be different each time....

Hogwarts Legacy will be released in 2022.” Hogwarts Legacy will be set at that famous boarding school for teen magic users all the way back in the 1800s, which means we likely won’t be seeing too many familiar faces from yon Harry Potter stories....

Seth was a big Hollow Knight fan who, thanks to the Marty Lyons Foundation (a similar scheme to Make A Wish), got to meet Team Cherry and help them design a new NPC for Silksong. Though Seth won’t be around to play Hollow Knight: Silkong, he’s now immortalised as a brave and important warrior in one of his favourite games. Horizon’s Gate is a seafaring survivalist adventure that boasts a gorgeous, retro pixel-art style. Although there is a narrative in place - with joyously raucous maritime dialogue consistently dotted throughout its trajectory - sailing aimlessly in search of exploratory endeavours is what marks it as something truly special. The gist is this: you, the Commodore of an independent fleet, are tasked with recruiting pub-dwelling seafolk to man your armada. It’s modest at first - you might have little more than a plain cargo cog, staffed by a ghost crew of four or five solitary beer-guzzlers looking to don their sea legs in pursuit of fame and glory....

And what better way to conduct this investigation than with a before-and-after comparison with 2008’s Dead Space, which I’m presenting in the distant hope that everyone who’s interested in such a thing won’t have already watched three of them on YouTube? First up, those reanimated rapscallions themselves, the necromorphs. The originals are gross, but their true ickiness potential is held back by circa 2008 visuals: the broken, torn, sticky bits lack in texture and often even stark colour differences to their bland grey skin....

According to Crytek’s blog post, coming first is Hunt: Showdown’s update 1.2. That update will bring matches with random teams of three. It will also add an additional tutorial, new Legendary Hunters, and new weapons and gear. The last bits mentioned are “server-side performance improvements, client CPU performance fixes, and a number of other general bug fixes.” You can watch the developers go over all of the changes for 1....

I really dig some of those Netscape Navigator-esque logos. The news came from today’s Hynospace Next livestream, which included a slightly longer look at the game as well as the announcement of Slayers X, a 90s-esque retro FPS ‘made by’ loudmouth Hypnospace character ZANE_ROCKS_14. Dreamsettler’s blurb explains that we will “take the role of an internet sleuth, helping users on the Somnius Sleepnet System with their problems. You’ll be exploring webpages, experiencing the beginning of social media, listening to hours of music from alternate-reality genres, watching all sorts of mad videos, and generally exploring a version of the 00s internet that feels familiar yet different… and that’ll be before it starts to get really dark....

Immortals still has much more in common with a slightly more budget Breath Of The Wild, or an Assassin’s Creed Odyssey made from Duplo, than it does the nation’s most Lynx Africa adjacent can. And since I like both of those games, and Immortals incorporates some of their best bits, I very much like Immortals. It could be the surprise sleeper hit of the year, in fact, and I’m hoping it is....

For a gaming PC, this looks like lunacy – the endearingly ambitious kind, but lunacy nonetheless. And yet Intel’s i9 parts have always delivered the goods when it comes to at-all-costs gaming performance, with not even the mighty AMD Ryzen 9 5950X quite matching up in games even as it spanks Intel in multitasking. As expensive as the Core i9-12900K is, it’s still cheaper than the 5950X, so could it be the new aspirational CPU to beat?...

Intel weren’t forthcoming about any other bits of information regarding their new generation of Rocket Lake chips today, admittedly, so we still don’t know what kind of manufacturing process they’re going to be using, for example, or whether they’re going to be compatible with the same Z490 motherboard chipset as Intel’s 10th Gen chips. Intel’s VP and GM of client computing group desktop, workstations and gaming John Bonini promised that they’ll “disclose more details in the near future,” though, so hopefully we won’t have to wait too long before we find out....

Part documentary, part storybook, part puzzle-box, The Final Hours Of Half-Life Alyx (or Half-Life: Alyx - Final Hours, as the store calls it) is a 25,000 word “multimedia experience” headed up by omnipresent videogames man Geoff Keighley. He’s done this before, the absolute rascal, releasing Portal 2 - Final Hours following that game’s release in 2011, with a bunch more archived over on his site. What we’ve got, then, is a big ol’ “making of” app....

Christmas Pain In Christmas Town is by The Chowder Man, a fictional musician whose songs and tragedies are scattered across the alt-history Internet of Hypnospace Outlaw. In reality, they’re by musician and comedian Erik “Hot Dad” Helwig, who is joined here by guitarist Dave Pino (who is just plain real). The song wasn’t originally in the game, mind, originally released as a Christmas surprise in 2019 with the video from Hypnospace creator Joy Tholen....

It had already been announced that Kerbal development was coming to a close with 1.12, but the latest patch notes brought new finality. “Even though we still may release a minor patch here and there when needed, with this patch we are officially completing the 1.12 update, as well as the sustained development of the original KSP, as we are now shifting gears towards the development of KSP2,” reads the post....
