Developed by Capybara Games (who also made Below and Super Time Force), Grindstone challenges you to match (read: slice up) little monster dudes on a 7x7 board. Each of these beasties has different abilities, so you’ll need to think about what you want to activate and when. The game has hundreds of levels too, with different obstacles and encounters to deal with. It hit PC today with all its previous updates and a new mode called Fortune Grind....

There’s a lot going on so let’s break it down. First off, the trailer revealed more confirmed fighters that we can expect to see in the roster, which now consists of Kazuya, Jin, Paul, King, Law, Lars, Jack-8, and Jun Kazama. I’m not up-to-date with Tekken’s story, such that it is, but Bandai Namco sums it up nicely, explaining that Tekken 8 “picks up after the gruesome battle that ended in Heihachi Mishima’s defeat, focusing on a new rivalry, pitting father against son as Jin Kazama stands in defiance against Kazuya Mishima’s quest for world dominance....

According to today’s Steam stats, New World’s peak player count today hit 913,634 players at some point today. SteamDB backs that number up, putting that peak at about 7pm BST (11am PDT) on Sunday, October 3rd. Apparently those #bignumbers have been enough to make corpo dad proud. Jeff Bezos tweeted on Friday calling New World a success, linking to a CNBS article calling it a smash hit. “After many failures and setbacks in gaming we have a success,” Bezos said....

To put the login issues players are experiencing in context however, it’s maybe worth noting that New World is currently the most popular game on Steam, knocking CS:GO from its perch within hours of release. New World currently has 694,612 concurrent players at the time of writing according to Steam, and was over 700k at earlier points today. SteamDB has similar data with some nice graphs. It’s not uncommon for big new releases to break the top ten, but it is rare for them to immediately claim the top spot....

Nightdive say that Rise Of The Triad’s art has been remastered and the cutscenes are now in HD. Everything should be running in up to 4K at 60fps, with increased field of view and updates for the HUD and UI. It’s got mod cons such as achievements and cloud saves too....

Demon’s Tilt looked like the kind of game you’d happily have poured whole weeks into on your Saturn or PlayStation back in the 90s, and Xenotilt’s going after the same effect. You and your shiny round metal best friends are up against the Xenophage, an alien menace that’s living inside the Samaritan. Only by achieving high scores and using some pretty hardcore-looking weaponry (for a pinball table, at least) can you defeat the Xenophage....

Oculus have previously explained that developers Armature Studio have left many RE4 fundamentals in place but are sprucing it up with VR capabilities. “Weapons and items have been re-engineered as physical objects you can pick up and interact with,” they say. “You’ll also be able to switch weapons by grabbing them off your body instead of going into a menu, and you can wield separate weapons with each hand.” You can catch a bunch of that down here in the new release date announcement trailer....

This is corporate stuff, but it’s not uninteresting. Opera GX is a browser designed with gaming in mind. It has Twitch and Discord integration, resource limiters to stop tabs from hogging CPU or RAM while you’re playing a game, and a few other features that, if I’m honest, sound unnecessary to me. It’s currently got 7 million monthly active users though, according to Opera. The announcement was short on specifics, except that both companies hope the partnership will drive new audiences to both pieces of software....

We’ve been expecting these hero rebalances since Blizzard had a change of heart at the end of last month, when they’d previously said there’d be no need to adjust any heroes until Season 2 arrives in December. Mei was temporarily removed from Overrwatch 2’s hero roster at the beginning of this month due to issues with her ice wall ability. At the time, Blizzard said they’d try to get her back in action by the time the mid-season update rolled around this week....

It turns out, apart from the cancelled ‘97 game Secret of Vulcan Fury, this was the last time the main cast were all together on one project. Which is kind of awesome, really. Kirk, Bones, and Spock, along with Scotty, Sulu, Chekov, and Uhura, all voiced by their proper actual actors (and Majel Barrett doing the computer this time!), in a bunch of new stories that feel like they could have been episodes of the original series....
