HighFleet - which is slated to come out in Q2, so sometime in the next few months - plots a course straight through this maelstrom of tropes, and comes out in a blaze of glory. And, admittedly, in a blaze of fire. But in a good way. Mostly. The game puts you in the shiny shoes of a young duke and a scion of empire, sent to command a squadron of gigantic steel airships in the suppression of a distant rebellion....

First up is this Super Stream then, which will feature “round-the-clock programming” with influencers and Bethesda Community teams streaming from the safety of their own homes. The announcement mentions some “surprises” here, too - will it be more info about new Doom things? Exciting Wolfenstein news, perhaps? Maybe even something about The Elder Scrolls VI (ah, probably not)? Or will it be a cameo from Todd Howard making more jokes about what they’re porting Skyrim onto next?...

For the Legacy Arcade, Ubisoft say you’ll choose from one of the 20 main operators on Siege’s roster. “Though your Operators will have their current abilities, all of your secondary gadgets will be fitting the original loadout of the game. That means no claymore, no impact or anything that was released later in the game.” Deployable shields are the exception, apparently, which will remain in their current form. You’ll play Plant Bomb with Casual Rules, rotating between attack and defense each round....

But first, Flores. He’s an attacker operator who uses explosive drones to get info and cause some mischief for the defenders. His gadget, the Ratero Charge, is a remote controlled drone which he can set to detonate to deal damage to enemies, or take out defender traps. If enemies shoot this drone before it reaches its destination, it stops in its tracks and turns bulletproof before exploding - so it’s probably best not to shoot at it if you see one dancing around your feet....

There’s a ton of stuff to see, and even after our third loop of the show floor we were always finding new things. On the face of it, the spec bump brings some very welcome additions. While I’m not sure there’s a graphics card in existence that can run the best ultrawide PC games at 5120x1440 at 240fps, at least you’re getting a monitor with plenty of room to grow as newer graphics cards get released in the years to come. Similarly, its new status as an official G-Sync Compatible monitor finally means that Nvidia GPU owners now have peace of mind when it comes to taking advantage of the monitor’s variable refresh rate tech for smooth, tear-free gaming as well as AMD owners - even if the CRG9 also worked perfectly fine with Nvidia cards without being a big C Compatible screen....

The Samsung 860 Qvo is a great SATA SSD, offering fast read and write speeds without costing an absolute fortune like a lot of other 1TB drives out there at the moment. The reason behind its low price is that it uses a slightly different type of storage cell tech to Samsung’s even nippier 860 Evo drive, but its performance is still top notch. In fact, in my benchmark tests, the 860 Qvo actually came in with faster write speeds than its Evo counterpart, all at a much lower cost....

We’ve not reviewed the EX2710Q, but Katharine reviewed the EX2710 back in January and came away rather impressed. Unfortunately, the overall package was let down by the 1920x1080 resolution not quite being enough for the 27” screen size. BenQ must have had a look down the back of the sofa for more pixels, because they’ve bumped the EX2710Q up to a much more suitable 2560x1440. That’s QHD, folks! With that one caveat no longer applicable, this could be the right monitor if you’re looking for a big screen with HDR support that doesn’t cost the earth....

If you’d not been following Scavengers, as I hadn’t been until earlier this week, the gist is that it’s a class-based and squad-based battle royaler. It’s got shades of survival in there too and apparently quite a lot of AI enemies and bosses thrown in. “Explorers are equipped with a combination of powerful abilities and futuristic weaponry to survive in a strategic battleground that blends sandbox-style PvE and class-based PvP,” Midwinter Entertainment say....

At the moment, all we have are hints and speculation about what the stream might contain. There was a new Sonic game announced back in 2019. Our chums at Eurogamer scooped that, but all it was back then was confirmation something’s in development. There’s been nothing officially announced since then, but two years is definitely enough time for them to have crafted something. And unless they’re taking a radical new approach to the format, you can expect it to be as bright and breezy as Windy Hill....

SMT3 is a turn-based RPG where you play as a “Demi-fiend” who’ll need to recruit some demons and fight others in a scary place called a Vortex World. The remaster comes with improved 3D models and backgrounds, the ability to save the game whenever you want, the choice to have Japanese or English voice over, and a new “Merciful” difficulty setting for those who find it all a bit tough....

One: get the fish in I was the Persians, in red: a cracking cavalry civ, with good economy bonuses and a big bad fight elephant as a unique unit. They were the Franks, in blue: an even better cavalry civ, with some rando axe dudes as a unique unit. We were fighting on “team islands”, but since we had no teams, it was just islands, really. Since there wasn’t going to be any early game aggression, we both zoomed towards the castle age as fast as possible, powered by tons of nutritious, boat-collected mackerel....

Right at the beginning of the stream (which you can catch from Sightless Kombat’s perspective below), he uses the musical technique to make his way from the tavern to the helm of a galleon. And yep, he then proceeds to steer the ship to their destination with precise directions from his crewmate, too. If walking around and steering an entire ship sounds too easy for you, at around the 34-minute mark the pirates get into some combat with some skeletons....

Turns out it’s pretty great. I’ve not played a Smash Brothers game since the gamecube, despite the daily racket as everyone played it outside the RPS treehouse over the last year. So I may not be the best person to judge, and the famously level-headed fans of that series might politely object, but it hit me in a similar place. Constantly, right in the face. It is frantic. There’s really not a tonne to it, nor does there need to be, since the fighting is quick and electric and you can get stuck in with some characters right away (the close range ones in particular, as the character select screen encourages you to get stuck in with them and just keep up the aggression....

Snow War is being developed by indie studio Gnomecraft as a spiritual successor to the Snow-War Half-Life mod whose v1.0 public beta kicked off in 2001 before its v2.0 update launched in 2004. It saw Half Life’s heroes and villains slugging it out in the snow, where you’d have power-ups you could wear, like a big bin for protection, or pogo-boots that let you bounce around the map, making you a harder target to hit....
