Of course, Headlines & Hot Takes has loads of chat on Valve’s Switch-like handheld. We talk about who this is for, we speculate on whether or not developers are going to be taking the Steam Deck into consideration when making their games, and we assess how it looks. But, before we get onto the topic of the trendy survival game in this episode of the podcast, Headlines and Hot Takes is full of chat on BioWare’s last couple of days. First of all, EA cancelled the big Anthem Next push to No Man’s Sky the online RPG, so we chat about what could’ve been. And, while not confirmed yet, the cold response Anthem has garnered since launch is reportedly part of the reason the next Dragon Age isn’t going to have multiplayer....
When you want to marry an NPC in Skyrim, you propose using an Amulet of Mara. In real life, you can now buy an official 10-karat gold ring based on the amulet’s design. For $1000, you can make your proposal hella Skyrim. I have previously heard of at least one person proposing with a custom ring based on the amulet, and one who proposed with an actual replica amulet. Bethesda’s merch store now stocks rings inspired by the Amulet of Mara, engraved with “With this ring and Mara’s blessing” on the inside....
Yep, those sure are some big Celeste vibes I’m getting from that trailer, all right. Lucid isn’t going to be a straightforward platformer, however. Its corrupted world of Aedyn is a bit more open-ended than Celeste’s mountaintop, with multiple locations to visit, puzzle-y dungeons to tackle, big bosses to fight and lots of collectibles to tempt you off the beaten path, according to developer The Matte Black Studio. It’s more of a Metroidvania, in other words, or, dare I say it, a ‘Celestroid’ perhaps?...
But the place was anything but abandoned. I’d invited a fair crowd of Twitter mutuals onto the server to keep the lights on, and they… well. They got busy. By the last time I played, on Halloween, I was referred to only as “the Pharoah”, and a metropolis had been built on the foundations of our starting settlement, by some sort of Shrek-themed cargo cult. After that, my time was eaten up by other games and other things, and I didn’t go back on the server again....

The Kislev (and the Notchina faction in Twarhammer 3, Cathay) have existed in the world of Warhammer but not as full armies, so Creative Assembly have been working with Games Workshop to fill out the unit roster. So sure, plenty of burly men, snowbeasts, ice witches, and some sort of Rasputin (I assume he is a specific branded Notrasputin?). Our Nate recently had a go on the Kislev when he tried out Twarhammer 3’s new survival battles....
The original F.E.A.R. had those clean lines, that slow-mo, and an exceptional use of grey. All of which were lost a bit with those follow-ups. But having dipped into the demo for FPS Trepang2, I’ve realised this might be the closest I can get to a true F.E.A.R. sequel.

For DLC, Space Academy is as straightforward as it sounds. You’ll need to revamp Two Point County’s space programme from your base in the delightfully monikered Universe City, although the expansion does feature the aforementioned out-of-county campus on an asteroid that’s suspiciously fromage-friendly. Whichever location you’re at, you can add new room types such as the Command Room, which develops your cadets into budding Captain Kirks, and the Battle Space combat simulator....
“Maxime Béland, Vice President Editorial, has resigned from his role at Ubisoft, effective immediately,” Ubisoft confirmed in a statement to The Verge. “Despite his resignation, we continue to investigate the allegations made against him. Additionally, effective as of yesterday, Tommy François, Vice President Editorial & Creative Services, has been placed on disciplinary leave pending the outcome of an investigation. One other individual in our Toronto studio has been terminated for engaging in behaviors that do not align with what is expected of Ubisoft employees....
Perhaps it’s questions like these that have led Skull & Bones, Ubisoft’s seafaring adventure, to be delayed yet again. This time it’s been pushed until sometime after March 2022. Ubisoft confirmed the delay in their full-year earnings report for 2020. Their confirmed slate of releases for 2021 includes Far Cry 6, Rainbow Six Quarantine, Rider Republic, Roller Champions, and the recently announced free-to-play The Division Heartland. Skull & Bones, meanwhile, “will now be released in 2022-23....
Valheim’s developers Iron Gate Studio have announced that they have now sold over 2 million copies and that they’ve set a new concurrent player record of 360,000 over the weekend. That’s more than double their record of 160,000 from last week. “We didn’t really anticipate that,” says Iron Gate CEO Richard Svensson. “Our goal was pretty much to cover our development cost so we could continue to exist as a studio and continue working on Valheim....
Two of Brimstone’s abilities involve opening up a minimap and clicking where you’d like to drop a smoke or orbital strike. There’s also a molotov which’ll leave a fiery zone in its wake, as well as a stimpack which’ll buff allies in its radius. So overall, he’s got a nice mixture of aggressive and defensive abilities which makes him a safe pick in pretty much any team composition. That’s not $50m total lifetime sales for The Witcher 3 on PC, to be clear, only from October 31st, 2018. The game has been out since May 2015 and CD Projekt also sell it on their own store, GOG. It sold loads before this period but has kept on strong and seen a real surge in popularity thanks to the hit Witcher show on Netflix. Following the December debut of the show (which is not based on the games, rather the same books that the games are based on), more people were playing The Witcher 3 on Steam than at launch in 2015....
Game ON!’s UK premiere is due to take place on Saturday January 21st at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall. A quick glance at the event page shows there will be plenty of cool-sounding symphonic arrangements lined up for the night, including Assassin’s Creed, World Of Warcraft, The Witcher 3, Bioshock, League Of Legends, Diablo 3, Ori And The Blind Forest and more. They’ll all be accompanied by video footage from the games in question, too, which I’ve always found a particularly nice touch at video game concerts I’ve been to in the past....
People never entirely stopped playing the original Warcraft III, so when you think about it, a remastered version feels long overdue. In some respects, Warcraft III: Reforged does a serviceable job of fulfilling that need. In others, it’s a bit - dare I say - underforged. In further respects still, some people might wish it had never happened. For the uninitiated, Warcraft III is a real time strategy game (and for the really uninitiated, that’s what RTS stands for), where you play as one of several fantasy races (though humans and orcs are the perennial favourites)....
In the new Juggernaut mode, you’ll need to hunt down a care package with the special suit inside. You’ll get geared up with a minigun that can help you cut through both vehicles and players in record time. Don’t get greedy though. If you get taken out while wearing the suit, a new care package will spawn elsewhere, Your teammates can’t just take up the mantle after you go to the Gulag so have a care and watch your six....
