Previously, players would create what’s now referred to as a “Standard World”. In a Standard World, the creator of that world is its owner and host, and they invite friends in to play with them. When the owner of a world goes offline, the world goes offline with them. With a Shared World, one of the other players can now re-host the world while the original owner is offline, so folks can continue playing....

The first thing you’ll notice about Growbot is its striking hand-drawn artwork. The world is rooted in a biopunk aesthetic, wonderfully brought to life with a contrasting blend of vibrancy and gloom. A vine here, a crystal there, a cascading waterfall elsewhere. The style is elegant, and enhanced by adorable animations, like Nara’s waddle along the screen as she moves. Accompanying this is an effective score composed by Jessica Fichot....

Although Gene Shift Auto’s rounds only last five minutes, it’s not a straightforward shmup. You can progress through a skill tree over the course of a round by doing missions for NPCs, and you’ll progress quicker if you decide to bait and fight the police along the way, assuming you can survive. There are plans afoot that will let Xbox One and PC gamers fight together in multiplayer. Everything is connected, people. The information was almost hidden away in a recent dev blogpost, where a small pile of features were promised before the year’s end....

These once entertaining folks are actually part of an alien faction called the Timestrikers who are attempting to overtake Earth. It is up to us - a burly, pixelated marine - to deal with the threat through the only way we know how. Guns, baby. Alright, I will come clean. I never made it past the first level....

There was also an entirely separate (albeit promotional) game detailing the life and fun adventure times of the main character’s dad called A King’s Tale, and a real-life version of the in-game minigame, Justice Monsters Five. You didn’t need to play the last two to understand the story, but man alive, what a mad old set of affairs, eh? And that’s before we get to the whole DLC debacle. It’s the kind of thing that probably wouldn’t fly now, but I still kind of admire them for doing it all the same....

The sex is the bit that you’ve already heard about, isn’t it? You play an 18-year-old woman who is in disguse as her twin brother, for convoluted reasons that I forget now, on an end-of-year cruise with the rest of their classmates. There are loads of interesting people on board for you to meet, and potentially kiss on the face and tie up (or get tied up by). The cruise is a week long, and a weird popularity contest is running over the course of it, where you can give and recieve points to other attendees....

Not going to lie, I didn’t remember a lot about The Incredible Machine when I picked it out for this column. All I have are vague memories of being about seven years old, mucking about making ramps to run bowling balls down. This actually helped me to instantaneously solve the first murder in Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony decades later though, impressing my wife in the process. I think all the faffing as a child may have been worth it for that alone....

So what. A little brainwashing never hurt anyone. You spend most of the game as a bartender, pouring drinks for your customers while probing them for information. It’s clever stuff. It gets you thinking about what makes each character tick, and how best they can be manipulated. You do this by drugging them, which is alright when the good guys do it. Cyberpunk is rarely this thoughtful, nowadays. What’s more important, liberty or happiness?...
