Each board is a series of perfectly devilish puzzles to untangle with your lance, daring you to defend cities, trains, launch sites, and ancient weapons against swarms of massive bugs. Every foe acts predictably, all the cards are on the table - it’s you’re job to stack them in your favour. “There are those games whose technology or setpieces or storytelling I thrill to,” Alec (RPS in peace) remarked in his Into The Breach review....

It’s been a minute since we looked at Iron Harvest, hasn’t it? The alt-history mech ’em up entered a pre-order multiplayer alpha almost two years ago. With its proper release only two months away, we’re getting a fresh look at the stompy RTS prior to next week’s beta. Set in the same “1920+” setting as board game Scythe, Iron Harvest is an RTS in the style of Company Of Heroes - build an army, scout out the map, capture resource points, and so on....

Also like Homeworld, it’s a darned stylish thing. The game commences with a spectacular intro cutscene wherein a futuristic space-shuttle launches from Earth, breaking through the atmosphere to dock with a gigantic, revolving space-station like a chromed hubcap off some petrolhead’s pride & joy. The cutscene neatly transitions into the play-perspective, where you see that same shuttle slide into the docking bay from the cold void outside. Welcome to the Tiqqun, Administrator....

From what I’ve played of the game’s earliest portions, it’s Yakuza through and through, to both its benefit and detriment. I don’t expect it to convert those who dislike the series, but if you’re a fan or a newcomer, it’s looking like it’ll both be a celebration of its cast, and a remake that feels like an old-school spin on the excellent Yakuza 0. In other words, the perfect introduction point to this mad, but beautiful action series....

Here’s a trailer which introduces the new items: Let’s talk about the free update first. In a blog post laying out the changes, the developer’s outline the new armor panel blocks, magnetic plates, and improvements to the brake and power toggles. They’re not earth-shattering changes, but nice quality-of-life improvements. The Heavy Industry DLC only makes cosmetic changes, but feels more substantial anyway. It adds large magnetic plates, beam blocks, conveyor pipes, cylindrical columns, and reskins of equipment like the Large Cargo Container....

It’s the kind of nightmarish urban planning I try to avoid when building my own road networks in Mini Motorways, the excellent sequel to minimalist transport sim Mini Metro, but its new Challenge City update puts all four of these real-world asphalt atrocities to shame. In this new mode, each city gets a bunch of new rules and conditions you’ll need to abide by, and after playing an early version of it this week, there’s one challenge that’s truly diabolical....

The fact that the game wants to tell its own story, rather than let the player run free, is evident from the beginning. The player character is somewhat customisable, but not through any kind of full creator. Instead, there are four appearances to choose from. Then, you pick another of the avatars to be your partner. You can choose pronouns for both yourself and them, regardless of appearance, but little else....

I hadn’t ridden regularly in forever but a friend offered me his old mountain bike (the police found it a decade after it was nicked) and I did not have a lot going on at the time. To cut a long story short, Spintires creator Pavel Zagrebelny had a bit of a spat with publisher Oovee, leading to the game’s delisting (and eventual relisting). Zagrebelny would eventually take the game to Focus Home Interactive where it would slowly drop the Spintires branding while its arctic follow-up ignored it entirely. Got it? Anyway. Mudrunner is an excruciating slog through rivers of mud, a driving game where progress is more often measured in inches than miles....

Gingerbread Bastion is fully decked out in Christmassy touches, from his Santa hat to candy cane highlights and the wrapping paper around the cannon on his back. Even his little bird friend is made of gingerbread now. It’s nice they’re showing poor ol’ Bastion some love after the rough patch he had not long after Overwatch 2 launched. If you want to pick up the gingerbread Bastion skin then you’ll need to log in to the game sometime between now and January 2nd, and stump up that one Overwatch Coin....

Unbound’s single-player campaign tasks you with winning “the ultimate street race” to get back a priceless car that was half-inched from your family’s garage in scenic Lakeshore City. I say scenic, it pretty much just looks like a bunch of dockyards, underpasses and cop-infested streets judging from the trailer. You’ll have to pelt it around Lakeshore in your tricked-out wagon, betting on races and working your way up the street racing ladder....

As for the Varangians, they’ve come to Southeastern Aeternum to find magical weapons for their boss. They come in forms including the Varangian Hewer, Varangian Scout, Varangian Knight, and Varangian Archer. Get out there and obliterate them so fully that they respawn on a timer because the universe cannot fathom how completely they are ruined, thinks it must be a mistake, and decides to reform their bodies when it thinks no one is looking, hoping no one notices its accidental hiccup in the laws of reality....

Everyone who played Cloudpunk wanted to see more of the city, so developer Ion Lands added a first-person mode last May. They clearly just ran with that and ended up with Nivalis, where you can choose how to spend your time. You can build a business, decorate where you live and where you work, mix cocktails, tend to a greenhouse, or just go for a walk. That last one feels like the heart of it all, really....

The initial video by YouTuber JorRaptor wasn’t just pulling stuff out of thin air, mind. From the looks of things, it all stems back to a three-week old Instagram post from actor Edwin Gaffney, who posted a picture of himself and fellow actor Alex Martin in mocap suits holding what appears to be a sword. The caption reads: There’s also a second photo of them in that same post holding a clapperboard with “Marvel” written on it, as well as “B Tariq” listed as the director - which, on the face of it, could quite easily be read as Bassam Tariq, who is indeed set to direct the upcoming Blade film starring Mahershala Ali....

Nvidia’s GTC conference was originally going to take place earlier this year on March 23rd, but a certain coronavirus-shaped pandemic meant it got postponed and moved online. Even today’s ‘conference’ isn’t really a conference as such, as Nvidia are just going to be putting out their keynote speech over on their YouTube channel. In it, Huang will be talking about a lot more than just graphics cards, as Nvidia also have their fingers in AI, deep learning, cars and robot-shaped pies as well as our humble gaming GPUs....
