If you were wondering whether or not pets are worth their investment, they probably are. Pets were already valuable assets due to their auto loot function, and other passive buff abilities which become increasingly useful as they level up. They’re also very cute, which is a plus. Once your pet has advanced to being Legendary via this update, they’ll get one of five random skills, all of which give you even better combat buffs....
Though it lets you chat to aliens, trade, mine, and hunt bounties, this isn’t really a game like Elite Dangerous where you can spend hours on each activity. About 80% of Rebel Galaxy involves shooting at other ships, with the rest there to help you upgrade your fleet. You start off small scale, making ends meet smuggling and hunting bounties in a randomly generated galaxy of about 15 solar systems....

The new music is from Floex, aka Tomáš Dvořák, who produced the music for Samorost 2 and 3 (and Machinarium). Him going back to create music for the original game is very cool. Because Samorost is very cool. It’s a classic point-and-click adventure, but it jettisons a lot of the genre’s cruft. There’s no dialogue trees or inventory. Instead, there’s a beautiful, strange, alien world, where progress is discovered via playful experimentation....

We’ve been writing about Scorn for six years now, and its world of meat, bone and gristle has been compelling that entire time. It’s partly Giger-inspired, but that means it’s filled with body horror and suspiciously shaped tubes, not that it’s necessarily action packed. Developers Ebb Software have been careful to say that Scorn has shooting, but that it’s not a shooter. Ed played Scorn at Gamescom and found it more of a hardcore puzzler than a survival horror....

ScummVM 2.5.0 is the first version to support ‘2.5D’ games, the announcement explains, thanks to a merger with fellow vintage video game platform ResidualVM. So say hello to support for Grim Fandango, The Longest Journey, and Myst 3: Exile. (Yeah, Grim Fandango has an official remaster these days, but maybe you want the original too?) It adds support for more games too, including Crusader: No Remorse and Little Big Adventure....

Snippy 5 advances the action from Italy 1943 to France 1944. You join a covert US Rangers operation in Brittany and discover a Nazi plan to end the war called Operation Kraken. Then you set about stopping it the only way you know how: by penetrating frail human bodies with small pieces of rapidly travelling metal. And knives. Developers Rebellion do say that the game will feature the series’ biggest maps so far, with new ways to traverse them including ziplines, ledge-shimmying, and the ability to slide down slopes....
This Tuesday, a pilot named “Lactose Intolerant” made the timeless mistake of transporting valuable cargo through a ‘safe’ area of space without taking proper precautions, like not doing that. The result was a ganking that cost him the ship and its cargo, worth an estimated 150 billion Interstellar Kredits. Or, to put it in normal people terms, about £1460. Lactose Intolerant was piloting an Orca, a large mining support ship sometimes used as a freighter, when he was hit by ten medium-sized Talos battlecruisers in high security space....
So, maybe Sony don’t realise that Japan Studio’s games are the ones that should be most urgently ported to PC? When I think of the iconic Sony games, it’s not Horizon: Zero Dawn (which came to PC last year) or Days Gone (which is coming this spring). Those are third-person action adventures of the sort I can already play on PC. It’s not even the better games of that genre that I think of, the Gods Of War, Lasts Of Us, or Bloodbornes....
People familiar with the KOTOR project said that employees have been informed the game is paused, and Aspyr will now be looking for “new contracts and development opportunities”. Insiders point to a lack of sustainability on the development of the project for its woes, with “disproportionate” time and money put into creation of the vertical slice demo intended for approval by LucasFilm and Sony. Saber Interactive were brought in to help on the KOTOR remake in May, and it’s thought they might now take over development completely....

“First Contact offers a set of new origins and mechanics that give players the chance to tell stories about their civilizations’ early encounters with visitors from the stars,” Paradox’s blurb for the story pack said. ”Ones that may not have come in peace!” You’ll have three new origins to choose from, ranging from being taken captive by aliens to your planet being invaded and conquered. Established post-FTL civilisations will get new ways to interact with new species on the galactic block, too....
Stray’s multiplayer mod was created by KangieDanie. It’s not purr-fect, because only one player can see the HUD. You can add multiple players but that might cause some issues, KangieDanie says. At time of writing, some players have been getting stuck when levels transition too. To fix it, you’ll need to go back to the main menu and then return to the game to continue. It’s a nice option to be able to play with friends or family in one of the most talked about games released this year, though....
Instead, I’m going to review Warstrong: Lordhold as if it exists in blissful isolation from any of its bucket-helmeted elder brothers, and just say how much fun I’ve had with it. The answer is that I’ve had lots of fun with it! There are some caveats to go with that, sure. But the bottom line is that I’ve found at least as much pleasure in playing it, as my 17 year-old self did with Stronghold in 2001....
Sub Rosa has been available to buy elsewhere for a long time, and SteamDB suggests it has been available on Steam since 2014. The game’s Steam page explains that it “has been in Early Access for years now, albeit hidden from the store and relying on word of mouth to build a small but motivated community of fans around the world.” This method of release was referred to in 2017 as “earliest access” by some of that ‘word of mouth’, aka a marketing tweet by its publisher Devolver....

But those games have been reduced before by just as much, and there’s a decent chance you already own them. Subnautica: Below Zero is the perfect sale game, in my eyes: one where you know what to expect, know you’ll love it, where you’re less likely to have made time for it, and where it’s cheaper than ever....
