Announced back in 2019, Ruined King was the first of two proposed MOBA spin-offs - the other being the awkwardly named action-platformer Conv/rgence: A League Of Legends Story. Today, Riot gave the spin-off release window and a new trailer. As a recap, the original LotF was published by CI Games and developed by Deck 13, the latter of whom went on to develop the sci-fi Souls-like The Surge with a different publisher. The Destroyer class is so good at thwacking things with their massive hammers that they can actually bend gravity with them, according to Smilegate. Crikey. These gravity-manipulating abilities take the form of slowing, launching, pushing and pulling enemies about. Along with the Berserker, Paladin and Gunlancer, the Destroyer is the fourth of Lost Ark’s Advanced classes. I would not like to bump into him in a branch of B&Q. The new raids coming with the May update are bringing a new rarity to gear in Lost Ark: ‘Relic’....

Made by Illusion Softworks (who went on to become 2K Czech, then were dismantled), Mafia originally came out in 2002. It’s the tale of Tommy Angelo, a cab driver who gets drawn into the mob in 1930 then discovers it’s not all fun and fashion. Hangar 13 have given it the old remakearoo in modern fancyvision, along with a few tweaks to make it play a bit less like a shooter from 2002....

Instead, it lands somewhere in between the weird keys and puzzles of Resident Evil, and the quiet, existential dread of something more like Soma, resulting a lot of waiting around as opposed to making you feel properly afraid - though the music and imaginative adaptation of a Welsh ghost story are both extremely well done. It might have done better leaning more into those aspects, perhaps, than towards straight horror....

That’s the trilogy revamped with 4K resolutions in mind plus a load of DLC whammed in, from story missions to promo items. They’re also making a few tweaks to how the first game plays, which sound like they’ll bring it more in line with the other two. BioWare say “combat and exploration are modernised through improved aiming, squad controls and behaviour, Mako handling and cameras”, and they’ve updated interfaces and the UI....

There’s talk of the developers’ kids now playing the games for the first time, actors hugging lots of fans, and getting a little emotional in the recording booth. It was honestly just swell to hear the team talk about the joy of working together, whether or not you’re planning to jump back in for the remaster. Moderated by Ash Sevilla, the group of twenty hardly needed any question prompts to jump off with old stories....

Microsoft have also revealed a few more details about the game’s TrackIR and VR support. So, support for TrackIR, Microsoft’s optical motion tracking controller, will be available at launch, while VR is on its way a little later on this year....

The Wild Update will liven up Minecraft’s world with new biomes, Mangrove Swamp and the Deep Dark, as well as new mobs to populate them. One of those mobs is the Warden, an antlered, inky, sad-faced behemoth from the Deep Dark. The Deep Dark and the Warden were both intended features of the Caves And Cliffs update before being pushed back to 1.19. You can see the process behind creating the Warden in yesterday’s livestream: That video also offers insight into other parts of the update, including the frogs that live in the revamped swamp biome, the Mangrove Swamp....

I actually have nabbed myself an RTX card (a 20-series, mind) since Minecraft’s RTX support entered beta. And you know what? It looks… fine. It looks fine. As per Nvidia’s post you’ll still need an RTX-enabled 20- or 30-series card to run Minecraft’s new ray-traced worlds. What is nice is that you can still play with folks without those cards, or on other platforms. Where you’re seeing all the fancy new rays and reflections, they’ll be treated to Minecraft’s default visuals....

Minecraft Java Snapshot 21W05A is available now, adding some of the parts that honestly are what most interest me in Caves & Cliffs. It’s the Lush Caves biome I’m after, which will house a lot of this new greenery. We have dripleaf, a new type of plant which grows sturdy enough to stand on, though it’ll eventually flop and drop you. Moss blocks are abound and can be crafted into moss carpet, a feature I would absolutely have in my dream home....

The new biomes in Minecraft’s Nether realm are getting three new tracks for the update, Mojang say. You’ll hear Rubedo in the Nether Wastes, Chrysopoeia in the Crimson Forest, and So Below in the Soulsand Valleys and Basalt Deltas. “One of the primary instruments in Minecraft is the piano, and so one of my challenges to myself was to see how far I could push the sound of the piano until it resembled other things entirely,” Raine says in Mojang’s update....

I love it. It scares me. It’s made by “Grimrukh”, the same bloke that made the popular Daughters Of Ash mod. I haven’t played it myself yet, to be clear. This is all just conceptual fear. Personally I wouldn’t go near Roguelike Souls: The Binding Of Lordran until I can comfortably beat most of the bosses in the original Dark Souls without breaking a sweat, and the idea of ever getting to that point is ridiculous....

Sunbreak’s new master rank quests aren’t messing around, basically. It seems Capcom have taken criticisms that the base version of Monster Hunter Rise didn’t provide challenging enough end-game content to heart, and have loaded the expansion with some truly agonising encounters purpose-built for returning veterans. I was able to hunt two beasties during my time with the game. Alongside Seregios (ugh), a returning beast that first appeared in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, I also faced off against Lunagaron....

Valhalla is Viking flavoured, set during the invasion of England known as The Great Heathen Army (great band name). Though you spend a lot of time pillaging and raiding, you also do a lot of open exploration, discovering strange standing stones, hallucinogenic mushrooms and odd quests involving nudists and betrayal mysteries. That, in fact, is my favourite thing about Valhalla: the freedom and trust that it gives you. I talked about this at preview, but the extent to which Valhalla just steps back and lets you do your own thing feels quite unlike an Assassin’s Creed game....
