Turns out, it’s a lot damn funnier when an actual human being does the same things with some panache and commitment to the role. This guy on TikTok (also on YouTube if you’re an Old like me) has a whole series of “Skyrim IRL” videos where he replicates the ridiculous habits of Skyrim’s less-sentient inhabitants. I first found JinnKid late last year from his second Skyrim NPC video—the one that apparently blew up and kicked the series off proper....

Ray tracing, as we know, is still in its relatively early stages at the moment. While the number of ray tracing games continues to grow on PC, The Medium is still just one of a handful of titles you can play with it right now. It is, however, also one of the first proper ’next-gen’ games to get ray tracing support as well (at least over on consoles), and I had high hopes that it might give us our first glimpse of how future games might benefit from this fancy pants lighting technology....

There aren’t a lot of other details on the game as I type this. The game’s apparently set during the Cold War and has something to do with mind control experiments, with you and up to three friends trapped within the halls of a facility infested with things that want to kill you. The only other things I know come via a developer tweet, which mentions that it’s aiming for a 2021 release and that you’ll also be able to play it as a singleplayer game....

As Dusk Falls As Dusk Falls is an interactive adventure that follows two families in the worst of situations, as a small town motel hold-up quickly escalates into something much worse. It might stand out due to its pretty graphic novel art style, with each scene presented as a painting, but As Dusk Falls plays similarly to a Telltale adventure or Supermassive’s Dark Pictures Anthology - just without the parts where you walk around....

Previously, the dispute between Frogwares and Nacon involved Frogwares’ claim that Nacon breached their contract by missing payments owed to the developers. Frogwares removed the game from Steam, which French courts found unlawfully terminated their contract, and they were told to uphold it until the dispute could be settled. The game returned to Steam last week, but Frogwares believe that version wasn’t made by them. On Monday, they published the video below explaining that they believe Nacon had pirated a copy of The Sinking City in order to sell it on Steam....

I love the idea of The Witcher 3. I enjoy playing the game, even. But I seem to be cursed. Every year or so I sit down to play it, full of resolve to see it through to the end. But every damn time, despite finding myself increasingly drawn in to its meticulously crafted fantasy world, and despite revelling in my role as a sort of ultra-violent Hagrid within it, I only ever manage a handful of hours before getting distracted and drifting away from the game....

Goodliffe and Anthony are both extremely good at puzzles. I really can’t overstate this. Goodliffe is the reigning Times Crossword Champion and Times Sudoku Champion, and Anthony was on the UK team for the World Sudoku and World Puzzle Championships. They’re also both just very calming, which is why their videos have become a soothing part of daily routine for a lot of people (including myself). Goodliffe in particular has a voice that would serve a BBC announcer very well....

Grab Puck from Itch.io (on Windows and Linux, with Mac to come), run the software, and it’ll happily sit there churning algorithms and playing with rules to design and test new games. Over time, it’ll learn and develop its ideas about good games. It’s still very much a research project, but it might make you something interesting....

Cyberpunker “ThePhoenixRoyal” posted on Reddit that they thought their reasonably-snazzy PC was running the game mysteriously poorly, perhaps not being used to its full potential, so they went poking around the game’s config files. There, they noted it seemed that certain memory settings were set to what they believe are the same as on Xbox and PlayStation. With their PC being so much fancier, they bumped the numbers a bit....

Now, it’s been a good few years since Line Rider’s inception in 2007. Thankfully, folks are still soundtracking vids with The Matrix: Reloaded score. Some things never change. It’s wild, right?
