Whoever you choose to lead your rally across rural ancient Britain will bring their own baggage to the adventure. See, that no-good rascal Sir Mordred has taken hold of Camelot, and it’s up to Arthur “of King Arthur fame” Pendragon to road-trip his way across auld Britannia in a quest to set things right....

Dwarf Fortress is my favourite game. And since it’s essentially a machine for generating weird fantasy stories, it’s even more fun to narrate than it is to actually play. Hence my previous diary series - The Basement Of Curiosity - which concerned the aforementioned chimp zoo. God, Like A Dragon: Ishin looks rad as heck. The trailer starts with Ryu Sakamoto (Kiryu’s feudal codename) facing off against none other than his sworn frenemy Akira Nishikiyama (Okada Izo). Izo says, “I am going to fell you like a tree”, then they cinematically clash swords to mark what’s most likely an emotionally charged boss fight where both end up hugging it out. What Izo isn’t prepared for, though, is Kiryu’s deep love for bashing thug skulls....

As for the details, here’s what’s souped up in the Enhanced Edition: ray-traced reflections, volumetric shadows, interactive particles, and immersive audio. “Particles are more abundant and dynamically affected by Mono, Six and the main antagonists,” Bandai Namco say. “Particles swim and eddy behind them, creating a more realistic and immersive environment.” On the whole then, light and shadows and reflections that all feel just a bit more real thanks to snazzy now-gen tech....

This year’s Madden is will bring tweaked controls, new Superstar and X-Factor abilities (seems like cheating for Jamie Madrox, the Multiple Man to play sports), and a new story campaign for the ‘Face of the Franchise’ mode. This time, we’ll get to create a player and see them from high school football through to college and up into the NFL. Madden NFL 21 is coming August 28th to Steam and Origin for £55/€60/$60....

Pentiment is set across a quarter of a century in 16th century Bavaria. It follows the investigations of journeyman artist Andreas Maler as he’s embroiled in murders and other dodgy shenanigans. You can mould Andreas by choosing his background from options such as Hedonist, Rapscallion or Bookworm. Andreas only has a limited amount of time to investigate, so you’ll have to decide how he goes about that – decisions and accusations he makes stack up over the years and people will remember them....

As explained in a post on the game’s site, the current XP curve “isn’t really a curve at all” but a straight line. “This has led to pacing issues, such as skill points currently being rewarded too fast, which may be confusing and overwhelming to newer players. We want each decision to invest in a skill or Heroic to be more meaningful.” They’re therefore increasing the amount of XP needed to level up after “around level 25”....

Embracer are, as far as I can tell at least, the parent company of THQ Nordic and Deep Silver - the latter having published the Metro series following THQ’s collapse in 2013. To expand that web even further, their purchase of 4A comes through subsidiary Saber Interactive, who’ll be taking on all of 4A’s staff, the Metro IP, and the studio’s in-house FPS development tech. So, beyond all the business talk, what does this actually mean for Metro’s future?...

It’s not going to change the world of action RPGs (that is to say, Diabloids), as it is a fairly simple beast. And it’s a fairly small one too: with a seven hour single player campaign that a proper clicklord could probably breeze through in half the time, it leans heavily on replay value to deliver its 17 quids’ worth of goods. But it is pretty much what I hoped it would be when I wrote my preview, and I have very little to complain about now that I’ve seen the whole thing....

You’ll be able to journey to the Forlorn Arena thanks to the update, a new area that has a bit of an Elden Ring vibe, if I’m honest. There’s lots of ruined, possibly wrecked massive stone architecture for monsters to hide away amongst. I spotted what looks like a crumbling viaduct, and an imposing tower rising in front of the moon in the distance. The trailer also gives a first look at hunters taking on the fantastically named Lucent Nargacuga, which resembles what I imagine would happen if you spliced a dragon with stoat DNA....
