And that’s what this podcast is all about: online shooters. We’re still touching on Warzone, of course, but we’re also going to be chatting about different games that involve pulling triggers and pinging targets. You could say it’s a natural evolution of Warzone Audio Bang, hence the “Ultimate” bit in the name. Makes sense, doesn’t it? As Imogen knows her news stuff, she takes us through a bunch of stories in shooter land....

SteamDB have been keeping unofficial track of which games have earned Verified (fully functioning), Playable (sufficiently functioning), or Unsupported (not functioning) status from this review process; the current combined count of Verified and Playable games has now ticked over 760. But finding the status of your own games meant combing through those lists manually, so this tool should provide a much more convenient alternative. To use it, just load up Valve’s new My Games page and punch in your Steam login details....

Mostly, Valve’s retrospective is a reminder of all the new features that they shipped for their store in 2019—from the Steam Labs, to new overhauled Library view, to Remote Play and all. Valve briefly reminds readers about their commitment to addressing incidents of “off-topic review bombing” when users attempt to affect the overall User Rating for a game with a simultaneous dump of negative reviews that don’t meaningfully critique the game itself....

Veilbreaker is essentially a smaller scale redux version of Warframe’s The New War expansion. As shown in the trailer, Grineer Lancer Kahl-175 returns from the previous expansion, and The New War’s boss robots, the Archons, are back, too, though they’ve been souped up to be more difficult. Warframe’s 50th, erm, warframe will also make its debut during Veilbreaker, but that wasn’t featured in the trailer shown today. A new expansion wasn’t the only thing of note shown during today’s TennoCon stream....

I’m trying to learn new languages, though, so it’s not an unwelcome challenge. The problem is that previewing Victoria 3 is quite an advanced level to dive in, the Paradox GSG equivalent of being a live translator for a UN summit when you’re only just about able to read the French version of The Famous Five. In a presentation before I and others were let loose on the better part of a week with the game, it was claimed that Victoria 3 is the best yet for onboarding newcomers, with a deep and detailed tutorial system....

Buried deep in the internet, far beneath the shitposting, apparently lurks an entire ecosystem of origami animals. So goes Paper Beasts, which tasks you with helping these creatures by solving puzzles, or else simply sit back and watch folded life take its course. Coming from From Dust designer Eric Chahi’s studio Pixel Reef, Paper Beasts offers up a gorgeous simulated ecosystem to tool about in. Each animal, from carboard-plated tortoises to multicoloured brutes, has its own behaviours and interactions....

The new campaign features two new units, three new Commanders, and volcanoes. Come watch this horseman get chucked into lava. The plot is about stealing from fantasy nouns - “plundering riches from the Imperial Palace of Heavensong, Stone Mountain Fort of Felheim, the Celandine Vault of Cherrystone and the Floran’s Iron Roots reserves”. I played all of the original campaign and can’t recall anything about it, apart from that dragons showed up at one point and were a big deal....

The Anniversary Edition announcement lists all everything thrown in: basically, a few weapons then a load of stuff for the multiplayer mode, including chapter skins and maps and the opportunity to become a Dreadnought. On the shinies side, you also get the full soundtrack, wallpapers, a ringtone, and other bits and pieces. Space Marine captured quite how chunky and absurd the holy warriors are, able to shrug off bullets and cut through a dozen mook with a single swing of their chainsword....

The developers are also bringing back Mini Royale, popping up a new building in the DMZ mode, and adding a new map to the multiplayer mode that you actually need to own Modern Warfare 2 for. Activision’s update page includes a few more details about how the football works. You can “collect and toss Shock Sticks to stall your opponents”, which sounds wildly frustrating, “or boost through enemy vehicles to ram them out of the way”....

The CODfusion seems to come from there being two sets of Call Of Duty players: people who own Modern Warfare 2, and people who don’t. Both can preload Warzone 2.0, but doing that requires a few different steps. Modern Warfare 2 owners technically already have Warzone 2.0 installed, which is the confusing part, and just need to queue a Season 1 update in their launcher of choice ahead of Warzone 2....

Developers Egosoft have also updated the base game, promising a litany of fixes and improvements, and additions including new ships, weapons, and a fresh storyline, whether you buy the expansion or not.
