Usually the code to a particular safe lies somewhere near that safe on a piece of paper; but sometimes the solution is hidden as a riddle, or a mathematical problem. And we didn’t play this game to think about maths, did we? So to make things easier, below you’ll find every single safe code in Dying Light 2, along with a few details on where you can find each safe and how the answer can be found. Safes in Dying Light 2 can actually be brute-forced if you know how. If you’re using a controller, then as you rotate the combination lock slowly, you’ll feel a vibration over any number that is included in the code. Once you’ve found all three numbers, you can get the right combination after a few tries. But we know most of you are far too busy to deal with that brute-forcing nonsense, so here’s every safe code we’ve found in Dying Light 2.

Dying Light 2 safe locations and solutions explained
Bazaar Church safe code: 5-1-0
Climb the top of the Bazaar, and in the tower you’ll find another safe. In that same room, check the poster on the wall and you’ll see a piece of paper slotted behind it with a key to the safe code: Using the acronym BIDMAS (or BODMAS - whichever one you learnt in maths at school), we know to do the multiplication first, then the addition and subtraction. So 5*100 is 500, and then 500 + 15 - 5 is 510.
Nightrunner Hideout safe code: 1-0-1
The Nightrunner’s Hideout is located near the point where the borders of Houndfield, Trinity, and Quarry End meet. See the giant square in the centre of Houndfield? The hideout is on the ground floor of the small domed building on the east side of that square. Once you’re inside, squeeze through the gap to the side to find the hideout and the safe. The code, 1-0-1, is located on a piece of paper in the secret room, which you can access by shoving the wardrobe out of the way.
“Book Club X” safe code: 21-12-55
This safe and its code are very straightforward. Head to the flat marked by the “Book Club X” quest tracker, talk to and kill the bandits inside, then pick up the Treasure Island book. Inside is the safe code: 21-12-55. The safe is on the opposite wall of the room.
“Out Of Your League” Crocodile Flats safe code: 11-11-19
This code can be found in the same room as you find the necklace in the “Out Of Your League” side-quest. Head to the specified location in the quest, which is in Houndfield (very close to the location of the first safe in this list, actually). As for the safe code, this one’s a little cleverer than most. Right next to the body wearing the necklace, you’ll see a picture of the woman and her child celebrating the child’s second birthday. The date of that photo is noted as 11/11/21, but that’s not the safe code. The code itself is the child’s birthday: 11-11-19.
“The First Biomarker” safe code: 9-7-3
The First Biomarker is a side-quest given to you by a man named McGregor, who tasks you with opening the safe, and gives you a riddle that is the key to the safe code: Each piece of the riddle gives you one of the three digits in order. It’s actually fairly straightforward:
9, when turned upside down, becomes 6, which is smaller. 7 is an odd number, which when spelled out is “SEVEN”. Take away the “S”, and it becomes, literally, “EVEN”. As the little girl is going home, ALL BUT THREE eggs break. So the number of eggs left unbroken is 3. Not 9, as you might have thought if you didn’t read the clue carefully.
Therefore, the safe code combination is 9-7-3.
“Moonshine” safe code: 3-1-3
The “Moonshine” side-quest is available for those who choose not to fight Jack and Joe in the “Water Tower” story quest. Later on they’ll wind up in jail in the Peacekeepers’ ship. Talk to them to initiate the quest to track down Cillian’s moonshine. They tell you that the code is the year America was discovered, which makes the code 14-9-2. You can find this safe in the water tower in the Horseshoe district in Old Villedor. Climb part of the way up the central tower and open the door at the end of the walkway using your lockpicks. The safe can be found past the door.
South Quarry End safe code: 22-67-66
This safe is tucked away in the upper floor of a small house in the south of Quarry End district. You can reach the top floor from the outside. From there, open the chest at the foot of the bed and read the note inside. It says: So, that’s 100 + 6,666 + 220,000, which equals 226,766. Therefore the code for the safe in the corner of the room is 22-67-66.
New Dawn Park “Little Boy” safe code: 10-28-64
This safe code can be found in New Dawn Park, to the west of the Fish Eye. From the inside of that square of buildings, climb the south wall to find a flat with a safe inside. Open the nearby cabinet and read the note inside, for a clue to the safe code: If you’re confused: Little Boy is the name of the atom bomb dropped on Hiroshima during World War Two. The above information can be easily found with a quick search online, but I’ll save you the trouble: the length is 10, the diameter is 28, and the filling weight is 64. 10-28-64.
Downtown Bandit Camp safe code: 3-1-3
The Downtown Bandit Camp safe is located on the east edge of Downtown, a fair way up the tall building that houses Military Airdrop THB-1L0. You don’t have to go all the way up to find the Bandit Camp. Defeat them, and then have a look inside the flat above you. The safe code is on the first floor of the flat, and you can parkour up to the upper area to find the letter with the code 3-1-3 written on it.
US Declaration of Independence safe code: 74-17-76
This safe lies right on the top of the border between Downtown and The Wharf districts. There should be a ruined raised motorway which has partially fallen, creating a slope that you can climb up to the top. A note on the table explains that the safe code is the date of the US Declaration of Independence. That date is July 4th, 1776. So the safe code is 74-17-76. The safe itself can be found inside the van next to the table.
Garrison Electrical Station safe code: 3-1-4
Inside the Garrison Electrical Station that you’ll need to fix as part of the “Broadcast” story mission, there’s a safe next to the #2 generator. Next to the safe, in a box, is a note telling you the code is the approximate value of Pi. Pi is a mathematical constant with the value of 3.1415926535. So the approximate value means the code is 3-1-4.
VNC Tower safe code: 6-6-6
Once you scale the VNC Tower in the “Broadcast” mission, you’ll be able to go up to the roof at any time using the elevator. Once you’re on the roof, use your Grappling Hook to absail off the west side and into the flat below. A note on the desk gives you the clue: Thus the code to the safe in the corner of the room is 6-6-6.
“Treasure Hunt” safe code: 3-21-67
“Treasure Hunt” is a quest you’ll receive if you complete Meyer’s side-quest “The Deserter”, and choose to keep the map at the end. The note on the table is a cipher, and the lower half is the cipher key you need to crack it. Once cracked, the first section gives you the location: And the second section gives you the code number: Head to the water tower in Muddy Grounds, and dive below the water in the basement. Open the safe to complete the quest.
Muddy Grounds “Life, The Universe, And Everything” safe code: 10-10-10
This safe can be found on the border between Muddy Grounds and The Wharf. Adjoining the building with the massive skull graffiti is a small container area that you can open using the GRE Access Key. Inside is a safe, and a note containing the clue: This is of course a reference to The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, where the answer to said question is: 42. In binary, 42 is written as 101010.
Church of St Thomas the Apostle safe code: 4-4-4
This safe can be found in the Church of St Thomas the Apostle to the far east of St Paul Island. Climb partway up the church until you reach the small room in the tower with the zipline leading from above the doorway to the south side of the church. In the room you can find the safe. The code for this safe can be found by exiting this room through the window, then using the gargoyle above you to climb to the top of the tower. There, in a box, is a note with the code 4-4-4 inside.
“End Of World War Two” safe code: 85-19-45
This safe can also be found in a cargo container that you can open using your GRE Access Key. The container can be found to the south of Saint Paul Island, next to the river. Inside is a safe, and if you check the shelf above the monitors carefully you’ll find a note explaining that the code is the “end of World War 2 (EU). The date you’re after is Victory in Europe Day, which took place on August 5th, 1945. Therefore the code is: 85-19-45.
Dark Hollow safe code: 9-8-7
This safe can be found in the Dark Hollow on the southern edge of Saint Paul Island. Head up to the first floor (at night, as with all Dark Hollows), and crouch through the gap on the right. A safe is on a bookcase beside you, and - unusually - you can pick its lock. Open it to reveal a note with the real safe’s code - 9-8-7. The actual safe can be found up the ledge opposite the bookcase. Head through into that ledge’s room and up the ladder to find the safe.
Newfound Lost Lands “Absolute Zero” safe code: 4-5-9
A ground floor building next to a series of bus parking spots in Newfound Lost Lands is where you can find this safe. Under the till you can find a note which declares the combination to be: “Absolute Zero (*F)”. In Fahrenheit, the value of Absolute Zero is around -459. Hence, the code is 4-5-9.
Dam Nightrunner Hideout safe code: 9-6-6
There’s a large dam to the west of Garrison, outside the city limits. On the north end atop this dam is a Nightrunner Hideout, a shack made from currogated iron. Inside the hideout is a safe, and if you climb to the top of the shack you’ll find a box with a note: “Baptism of Poland”. This refers to the historic ceremony in the year 966 where the Polish leader and his court converted to Christianity. So the safe code you’re after is 9-6-6.
